The Aleph-X

The ones in my photo are Bergquist Sil-PAD K-10. They are not pennies in quantity from Digi-Key. I bought 12 for $12. Yikes.

:$: :smash:

They do have the best Rθ of any insulating pad sold on Digi-Key. Despite their description in the catalog, these are not rigid PVC with adhesive. They are thin floppy beige pads without adhesive.

Ummmmmm....... I think Nelson meant LARGE quantities. I guess a dozen is a large quantity for donuts, but not much else.

AX power supply

Hi all,

I've been reading a book by Morgan Jones (Valve Amplifiers) and he mentions that the amp , though important, is in principal a modulating device and that it's the power supply that is of extreme importance. The finest designed power amp is worthless without a high quality power supply. I'm interested in an LC style power supply, perhaps an LCLC. I've been reading that each successive LC bank reduces ripple 12 db. There are problems with this approach that require shunts or bypass circuits and I'm still studying and trying to comprehend this approach.

Are the brains in this group in the mood to discuss a high quality, high power PS?

Hi, since i` m no expert,

can anyone explain me how to adjust aleph x?
there are tree pots, i think two of them are for adjusting quiscent current and one for regulating dc offset at the speaker output.

where can i meassure the cuiscent current?

thank you verry much,
Ralf

All the info is provided by Grey at the beginning of this thread, so all you have to do is click on the first page.

You can reduce ripple using an RC power supply as well. Each bank of RC is a 1st-order low-pass filter. My Aleph-X power supply which is good for +/-12V at 8A uses CRCRC filtering with 44,000µF capacitor banks and 0.125Ω resistors. The 120Hz ripple reduction is -13dB, and I dissipate 16W in the process.
