I can't get excited about doing an entire cone with damar....
Bud makes 3 posts in this thread starting on page 8 that outlines EnABL application. When i get a chance i'm going to dup all the relevant posts out of the diyA monster into its own thread.

BIB and Axiette
So, did you allready try Axiette? Did it sound good with your BIB?ultrakaz said:I finished building a pair of BIBs. Size is 70" x 12" x 18". Thus far I've tried Fostex 208EZ and 168 Sigma, Visaton B200 and Lowther DX55. Later I will try F200A and Axiette.
and my new pair of dbibs!
Like my friend's pair these are twice folded, but are for the fe108es. will get to compare these directly to my regular bibs for the 108es which use the same path length and mouth size. the double folded is a cheaper construction, using mdf sides and front and particle board for the rest. the baffles are made from birch plywood left over from the first pair. they are tiny!
in any case, i hope to make some cables and apply the last two coats of paint this weekend. here are some pics from the build. would love to compare these to the frugalhorns or the fostex recommended but don't think that will happen. if i build anything else for these drivers it will likely be the aikos or a modification of the fostex spiral horn for the older version of the driver, to be mounted on the wall.

That would explain it. Don't try to preview -if you're linking to elsewhere, they'll go walkabout. Just post the things & edit afterward if necessary.

That's a nice, inexpensive woofer. I used them for many years in my previous MTM's. I have no doubt it would work really well as a bib sub, but how about these?
Here is a PE buyout driver with considerably more Xmax, and a slightly higher Fs. As it is the same price for more output, why not go for it?

Check this guy out for $10 more (on sale):

The same makes it a great deal. Plenty of excursion, and a smaller compliance to boot. The extra length will take some trickery, but I think it'd be worth it.
His big bro' is on sale too, and given the VAS at Qts, should require a smaller box than the 6.5 you were looking at. It will be capable of much, much more output. Granted, it's more than twice the price, but when you take your time into account, $30 is a small additional price to pay for much, much more subwoofing.

Those all look pretty good. The only thing is the sensitivty. I wasn't planing on puting a whole lot of watts behind it. The closest one is still 3dB down. Plus I already have a desktop system sub that's going to use the Dayton.
Those Alesis would be worth just picking up a couple to mess around with though.
I am wondering how many times you could fold a BiB and what happens with each fold. Pros? Cons?

Why not build a tapped horn? It is probably a better sub solution than the BIB. It'll give you the efficiency you need and size you need. Head over to that thread and see if those gents can help you out.

Great job on all the new BIBs out there! I wonder when folks will start building two and three-way BIBs that are typically done in small bookshelf boxes. My BIBs are very - out of the way - standing in corners, maybe two or three inches from the side and back walls. My small bookshelf speakers needed to be further into the room, on stands and farther from the corners. Overall, they intruded much more on my floorspace than BIBs.
Often i see BIBs standing on either side of a wall unit or placed in a corner all by themselves. They can be designed to match furniture. I have seen some elegant BIBs in lovely home settings.
Like other large back horns, BIBs can be made into furniture to enhance the look of a room. But once they are setup for optimum sound they are usually very out of the way.
I spent much of the last few days listening to music. Everything from Wicked to Shelby Lynne to Warren Zevon sounded wonderful. I find the BIBs to sound more like live music than recorded music probably because they throw a larger image than typical bookshelf or tower speakers, they move more air (front and from the top) and fill the room with sound more effortlessly than anything I've ever heard. For me, every other speaker box is simply a compromise.

If your computer is connected to your stereo you can play the test tones from 250hz down. These are the frequencies you want coming out the top of your BIB. Stuff your BIB until you reduce the frequencies above 300hz. I posted the test tone link here:

yeah, i know, not the best finish but i'm happy with them. it was an experiment and i like the way they sound -- much fuller than my regular bibs and don't get the midrange leakage with these. i would like to say it is the extra fold but it could also be the improved baffle (shape and added thickness for more air around the driver) or the cheaper materials (mdf and particle board).😀
i would love to see someone create monolith dbibs with the drivers mounted on the side, at appox .4 path length. i think the results may be even better!
