I write this to protest against all those people who oppose the war against Saddam Hussein, or as they call it, the "war against Iraq". I am an Iraqi doctor, I worked in the Iraqi army for six years during Iraq-Iran war and four months during Gulf war. All my family still live in Iraq. I am an Arab Sunni, not Kurdish or Shia. I am an ordinary Iraqi not involved with the Iraqi opposition outside Iraq.
I am so frustrated by the appalling views of most of the British people, media and politicians. I want to say to all these people who are against the possible war, that if you think by doing so you are serving the interests of Iraqi people or saving them, you are not. You are effectively saving Saddam. You are depriving the Iraqi people of probably their last real chance get rid of him and to get out of this dark era in their history.
My family and almost all Iraqi families will feel hurt and anger when Saddam's media shows on the TV, with great happiness, parts of Saturday's demonstration in London. But where were you when thousands of Iraqi people were killed by Saddam's forces at the end of the Gulf war to crush the uprising? Only now when the war is to reach Saddam has everybody become so concerned about the human life in Iraq.
Where were you while Saddam has been killing thousands of Iraqis since the early 70s? And where are you are now, given that every week he executes people through the "court of revolution", a summary secret court run by the secret security office. Most of its sentences are executions which Saddam himself signs.
I could argue one by one against your reasons for opposing this war. But just ask yourselves why, out of about 500,000 Iraqis in Britain, you will not find even 1,000 of them participating tomorrow? Your anti-war campaign has become mass hysteria and you are no longer able to see things properly.

Poll Shows Most Want War Delay
By PATRICK E. TYLER and JANET ELDER
Even after the administration's aggressive case for going to war soon in Iraq, a majority of Americans favor giving United Nations weapons inspectors more time to complete their work so that any military operation wins the support of the Security Council, the latest New York Times/CBS News Poll shows.
The public supports a war to remove Saddam Hussein. But Americans are split over whether the Bush administration and Secretary of State Colin L. Powell have made a convincing case for going to war right now, even though much of the public is inclined to believe that Iraq and Al Qaeda are connected in terrorism.
The poll found that while the economy still commands the greatest concern among Americans, the prospect of combat in Iraq, fear of terrorism and the North Korean nuclear standoff are stirring additional anxieties.
These worries may be taking a toll on Mr. Bush's support. His overall job approval rating is down to 54 percent from 64 percent just a month ago, the lowest level since the summer before the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
Three-quarters of Americans see war as inevitable, and two-thirds approve of war as an option. But many people continue to be deeply ambivalent about war if faced with the prospect of high casualties or a lengthy occupation of Iraq that further damages the American economy. Twenty-nine percent of respondents in the poll, which was conducted Monday through Wednesday, disapprove of taking military action against Iraq.
With major decisions of war and peace still pending, 59 percent of Americans said they believed the president should give the United Nations more time. Sixty-three percent said Washington should not act without the support of its allies, and 56 percent said Mr. Bush should wait for United Nations approval.

As Scotty in Star Trek once said,
"The best diplomat I know is a fully charged phasor bank."
Only the threat of war is forcing Saddam to open up, and as others have said, no one ever cared one wit for the Iraqi people when Saddam was slicing and dicing his people simple because they disagreed with him. It may make you feel good to say you hate war, and this is what these wicked dictators want. Saddam is playing you as fools and laughing at you.
Does he really have WMD? I don't know. Is he fit to be a leader? Of course not. But if the US backs down due to world pressure, while you are sleeping all happy and comfy and proud of what you accomplished, millions of Iraqis will still live in oppression and, thanks to your lofty ideals, will have seen what may be their last chance for freedom destroyed. Is this what you want? You may make fun of the US for standing up for the principle that all men are created equal and wanting to help others obtain freedom, but all you are doing is trying to ensure continued oppression. Saddam knows that if he converts to a democracy he will be tried and hanged by his own people, so he will never let go of power.
So, if you want continued oppression for those living under dictators, continue to push for more diplomacy and stalling. Think about it. Most all of the worlds major problems are caused by non-democratic governments. What is so wrong about wanting all people of the world to live in freedom? Is that not worth fighting for? For many who claim to love peace, I guess not. All you antiware protesters, sleep well tonght, for millions of Iraqis, North Koreans, etc. are not, and you are destroying any hope they may have of living as free men and women.

Why was your President one of very few heads of state who didn't even bother to show up at the last Earth summit? Is it perhaps because he leads a country which doesn't give a monkey's about the rest of the world?
Come on, I would love to hear an American defend his country's refusal to sign up to Kyoto.
I would love one of you to admit you think you have a God-given right to use as much of the world's resources as you want, despite the fact that your nation is creating a disproportiante amount of the greenhouse gases which are screwing up the climate of the whole planet.
I would love one of you to admit that you don't give two figs about the fact that climate change has led to flooding in parts of the UK for two of the last three years which have never been flooded in living memory.
How about it King Daddy or Long Shadow - would either of you like to admit to the rest of us that you are perfectly comfortable using and abusing the lion's share of the world's resources while the rest of the world is working together to try to cut back and clean up?

OK, I got a bit carried away there. the original request was for examples of 'US attitudes towards individuals and the planet' which are disliked by 'many of the worlds people'.
Does this qualify or are you seriously going to tell me that you will disregard this as 'anecdotal' unless I can produce a survey of the world's people showing what percentage agree with me? When are you going to open your eyes and see that the behaviour of your country in some areas is UNACCEPTABLE in the view of the majority of the world.

Bush will go to war!
If he doesn’t, he will keep losing popularity.
The economy will turn down even more.
Wall street, like all financial markets need stability and if Bush would be indecisive
now he would give Saddam the biggest victory he could think of.
Today the world has the opportunity to go on the street and protest against war.
In America alone there will be millions of people in more than 100 cities protesting against W.
Worldwide we will see protest in more than 600 countries.
I think today is THE protest day against stupidity of war!
It would be nice if we wouldn’t see too many posts here today.

i must admit that i find it very difficult to argue with those who take a reasoned, reasoning and reasonable approach to the situation in iraq and still, albeit reluctantly, decide that war is the only option. how can i? though i don`t necessarily agree with you i must respect an opinion that is presented thoughtfully and, frankly, has as much validity as my own. no one can say what the best course of action is when the best we can do is learn as much as we can about the situation and then follow the dictates of our respective consciences.

Well said, joe dick.
It's not so black and white is it? Even if we knew all of the facts it still wouldn't be easy to make the best decision.
Maybe we'd be better off sticking pins in effigies of Sadam Hussein. With enough combined energy and a good likeness ... Mind you, I would imagine that many members here would make a Bush effigy and quite a few, Blair, Chirac or Schroeder.
If Bush now does delay before launching an attack, it will be largely down to the influence of his "poodle" Blair. Is this a case of the ' tail wagging the dog'?

Please be careful what you include between quotation marks. If you run Tall Shadow's quotes together, plus your answer to those quotes, then you get a situation where it appears to the reader that Tall Shadow is saying things when in fact some words were written by yourself in answer to him.
I know it is not easy to do multiple quotation boxes, but it really is necessary to do so to keep your words from being mixed in with those of the member you are answering.

This box will be quoted in parts.
Part A:

Part B:
BBBBBBBBBB
Part C:
CCCCCCCCCC
Part D:

I will use this post to illustrate.

Okay, let's just say that you want to reply ONLY to parts A, B, C and D.
First, run your cursor over the first part of the post-NOT over the part that begins "quote"in square brackets, [ ]-the first part of the text. Then delete it.
Second, run your cursor over the part that starts "originally posted by kelticwizard" and press CTRL-C. That copies it.
Go to the part where it says Part A, and press CTRL-V. That writes the beginning of the quote marks for you.
Write your response to Part A. Then close with "/quote" in square brackets, [ ].
Third, go the beginning of Part B. Paste again. Write your response to Part B. Then close with
Fourth, go to the beginning of part C. Paste again. Write your response to Part C. Close again
.
Fifth, go to the beginning of Part D. Paste again. Write your response to Part D. Close with
.
This illustration might help. Sorry about bluish color. MSPaint doesn't do GIF files that well.
My next post-after Tall Shadow's message-will show you what it looks like once you do this.
