The History Channel has been on in America for well over a decade now. For quite a few years, many have waggishly called it The Hitler Channel because of the large numbers of shows about WWII.
Theoretically, it's supposed to be an American channel, but so many of the documentaries have narrators with English accents that it might as well be considered an Anglo-American enterprise. 😀 😀

Kelticwizard,
I should have been more specific, the Freeview channel's full name is "UK History," presumably because it is history as written by the UK, as opposed to any history written by another country. Nevertheless, you have answered my question...

I don't want to give the wrong impression. The History Channel is just one of many "cable channels" that exist on the sets of almost everyone who gets cable-almost everyone.
There are several different levels of cable packages, but the Basic Cable has about 20 or so exclusively "cable" channels, like the History Channel, the Learning Channel, MTV, Animal Planet, The Food Network, CNN, CSpan, (goings on in the government as they happen), etc. Collectively, these news and entertainment channels comprise maybe 30% of the viewsership at any one time.
HBO and Showtime, as well as other movie channel packages which cost extra, are between 20 and 25% at any time.
The regular broadcast networks are also carried on cable as well, and provide most of the big popular shows you might have heard about-Seinfeld, Law and Order, etc. These comprise abut 50% of the viewership. 50% of the viewership divided among 5 networks.
So the History Channel is being watched by perhaps 1% of the TV population at any given time.
I did not mean to bore you with the statistical breakdown of American television, only to make you understand that although the History Channel is likely to be showing something from WWII, the viewer is most likely to be watching something else. It is not like there are only 5 or 6 choices to watch at any given time, and The History Channel is one of them.

A little joke i heard today (lighten up people 🙂 ):
Bush:- Gentlemen, members of the press, i'm proud to announce we have found unrefutable, rock-solid evidence of the presence of WMD in Iraq.
Press:- (all at the time) Mr President! Mr president! What would that be?
Bush:- A receipt.

This is such nonsense on a galactic scale, having nothing whatsoever to do with the issue at hand, that I don't even want to go into the argument.

here in canada when they want the country to gird for war they just endlessly repeat 'Anne of Green Gables' on the cbc. after a while you're pretty much ready to kill anyone just to make it stop.

there seem to exist amerikans who think this way. I can´t see much antiamerikanism in this thread. But that behing the link is clearely amerikan and very aggressive anti europeism. (a proofen link for anti european movement in USA - we should send some 10.000 soldiers there asap.)
till,
when you see such egregious nonsense as 'axisofweasles' you may as well laugh at it. you will never convince those who subscribe to such bull**** that it is bull****.
it is frightening that there are people in my country who also feel that way - not just americans. i`m sure there are some pretty hawkish europeans as well. the best you can hope for is to convince reasonable people that there are other ways to deal with iraq.
and it appears to me that reason will once again be defeated by greed and fear.

America's wars have changed the world, mainly for the better, and they have had deep effects on the country's social and economic institutions. World War II led to official desegregation. The Cold War brought a government-funded scientific establishment.

thats the way they think in amerika?
more nonsense from US

Meanwhile, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, J Dennis Hastert, has asked Congress to consider banning French exports of wine and bottled water on health grounds.
He says that some French wine is clarified using bovine blood, so that Americans could be at risk of getting BSE or "mad cow" disease.

I mean, these people are so primitive, how on earth can there be any progress on peace this way. This really frustrates me a lot!

Thank God, thats NOT the way!
Listen to Dustin Hoffmans speech in Berlin
I believe the majority in US is intelligent enough not to
support such a f....ing Bull...t.
The protest movement in US is the biggest one since
the Vietnam war now.
Thats the reason why those guys are in a big hurry
to start the war.
The longer they wait the bigger the protest movement
in US gets.
I believe that in 2 months it will be political suicide for
G.W.B and his fellow gunslingers to start the war.
BTW: Yesterday attacked this Rumsfeld my country just
because the Austrian government said no to US Army
trains thru Austria! Does this idiot believe that he can
do everything? Without a UN mandate there will be NO
f...ing train of soldiers run thru my country!
Uli
😡 😡 😡
maybe i should move to austria. They are more consequent. In germany the large amount of US Airforces planes forces problems in Frankfurt sky.
FRA
Hi Till,
Frankfurts skies are much more polluted by heavy traffic
of TUI and Neckermann holiday planes
earthbound uli🙂

uli, you are right. The problem at the moment is not more pollution - its there is a lot more military traffic than usual. This makes problems for the Neckemann and TUI planes. So we know the real reason for anti amerikansim in germany now: its cold here and germans get very aggressive and antiamerikanistic if they can´t fly on the shortest way to the german island mallorca. The USA does a mean attac on german lifestyle by sending so much galaxy transporters to FRA, Neckemann can´t bring us to mallorca fast enough.
