Perhaps this war is not inevitable.
Conspicuously Absent during most of this has been Russia. Russia has been one of Iraq's close supporters for years. With the soul-link with Mr. Putin that Mr. Bush seems to think exists, can it be that they are both working on an eleventh hour deal to get Saddam Hussein out of the way into a cushy retirement a la "Baby Doc" Duvalier in Haiti?
Wouldn't that be nice? 🙂 🙂

I would love one of you to admit you think you have a God-given right to use as much of the world's resources as you want, despite the fact that your nation is creating a disproportiante amount of the greenhouse gases which are screwing up the climate of the whole planet.
I would love one of you to admit that you don't give two figs about the fact that climate change has led to flooding in parts of the UK for two of the last three years which have never been flooded in living memory.
How about it King Daddy or Long Shadow - would either of you like to admit to the rest of us that you are perfectly comfortable using and abusing the lion's share of the world's resources while the rest of the world is working together to try to cut back and clean up?
OK, I got a bit carried away there. the original request was for examples of 'US attitudes towards individuals and the planet' which are disliked by 'many of the worlds people'.
Does this qualify or are you seriously going to tell me that you will disregard this as 'anecdotal' unless I can produce a survey of the world's people showing what percentage agree with me? When are you going to open your eyes and see that the behavior of your country in some areas is UNACCEPTABLE in the view of the majority of the world.
I have no problem admitting that most Americans are far behind in global conservation, were a young country with so many recourses and so much fertile land that it probably wont occur to most here that there is a real problem until it's just around the corner. Were also self-involved and a little arrogant and even ignorant.
Now name me a country that hasn't gone through this way of thinking in the last 50 years, you Europeans only just recently started worrying about the effects of your waste and disregard of resources that effect your immediate surroundings. If you think about it all countries are equally selfish, only seeing a problem when it looks like it might effect your generation and region. So complaining is not very fruitful is it? In fact this thread has degraded into America bashing which I find hard to take so I'll just but out before I say something ugly.
I never realized the rest of the world was so much more thoughtful and moral than the imperialist evil warmonger Americans, I always thought we all have commited the same sins.
Till:
That is indeed Mr. Greenspan.
I don't know that he is the most powerful man in the world, but his ability to lower and raise interest rates has a great effect on the American economy, which affects the economy of the world quite a bit.

I don´t think he is the most powerfull man, i don´t know who it may be. But i doubt Mr. Greenspan is the one behing this war stuff. He made his job before the Bush administration. The change fells together with this cowboy politicans coming to white house.

Now that we are 400+ posts into this thread, I"m beginning to think that a good proportion of European attitudes toward us is in fact based upon jealousy!
Oh I don't think so. That conclusion is based on your
assumption that the US is better to live in than Europe and
that most europeans also think so but won't admit it. That is
hardly the case.
Otherwise, I agree that the debate has degenerated. There
are good and bad things about both the US and Europe. Most
americans think it is better to live in the US and most europeans
think it is better to live in Europe, and often intheir own homeland.
However, the debate also reflects that there is a problem of
understanding each other across the Atlantic and to some
extent this also mirrors the lack of understanding on the
foreign policy level.

I suppose that you are forgetting the subject of this thread i.e. "Support Peace! What can WE do....??" and talking about jealousy is here displaced !

Somewhere along the line, this 400+ post thread wandered from Iraq into American movies, "cultural imperialism" and MacDonald's. In case you haven't noticed, after defending my country on these things-well, I didn't defend MacDonald's, they're pretty indefensible-I did my best to return the subject to Iraq!!

Or is jealousy from Europeans against the Us the reason that some Europeans doesn't want that the Us administration wants to kill thousands of innocent Iraqi people ?
Are you reading the same thread I am? Iraq got put on the back burner for whole pages of this thread. I'm sorry, I'm not going to read post after post of people blaming the US for the fact that their own people like some of our culture.
And by the way, I did make an attempt to return the conversation to the subject of Iraq.
But no, I don't believe that jealousy of the US is the reason that some Europeans oppose the invasion of Iraq, at least at this time. If you had read some of my previous posts, you would read that I oppose it at this time as well. I think Bush is going about this in a bad way.
But tell me, do you think that the disarming of Saddam is
A) Important, or
B) Unimportant ?

Ok but if you make your best to return to the subject don't go away from the subject by accusing Europeans of jalousy against US. This is not the way for supporting peace and try to discusses what can be done to avoid a war against Iraq and killing thousand of Iraqi innocent people, and indeed war is KILLING thousands (maybe hundred thousands in this case) of innocent people. I think peolple don't remberer enought of that.

Hi,
You guys watch the news?
Bin laden has had a video on the tele, you can interpret it in a number of ways but (I just give this as a sampler) the US have once again found so called proof that Bin Laden and Iracq are somehow connected.
What a joke...🙄
Do they really still believe that if they run it by us long enough we're actually going to believe it?
The Iracqi weren't too pleased with the so called "proof' either, can't say I blame them.
Next time choose a president please,😉

in quote "Have I to answer at a quiz ?"
What is the immediate threat for Iraq against the Occidental people for engaging a war ? Doing preventive war killing (I repeat it ) thousands of people, 1000 Iraqis for a threat against one Us. This methods are like the methods used in German III Reich.

It would be great if possible to disarm the hole world. Bann on all arms. A tool only for one purpose, for killing people, is a sin. Not only in a religios way, i´m not a great christian.
At the moment i feel its more important to disarm G.W.B.
If someone should do this disaming, it shouldnd be a nation, and at least the nation which posseses the most weapons of all, and makes a big money to sell them everywere. I prefer the UN, and if it should do a nation i vote for switzerland, luxembourg, norwegen or so.
This methods are like the methods in German III Reich.
I think it is worse.
What wonder, they had the chance to learn from Göring and Göbbels.
