or water HDPE pipes Some have a very thick wall convenient to screw the woofer basket edge
they should be both heavy and damped

There was a soundsystem in the early 2000's in the UK called Innerfield - their website is still up to this day Innerfield.co.ukI actually considered using a sewer pipe at one point. A few friends of mine, work in construction, and sometimes have a piece left after a job. They are seriously strong and solid. So a glued in thick wooden panel in each end, and you would have a bit of unique look, with that color and ribbed shape 😀

Here's some photos of the subs - I don't know much about them but they definitely have a presence to them!

Hi @planet10, thanks for the inspiration, I went and built it.View attachment 1331867
Key to this design is the woofer magnet braced against 3 panels +nthe brace.
To keep the price down and what people expect. The better ones are push-push and some not too pricey (the little KEF cube for instance)
There are tons of woofers to choose from. From dirt cheap to real dear.
Really just woofers but do a quite good job. 4 woofers about $100.

18 mm baltic birch plywood, external dimensions: 0.5 m³, internal volume: approx. 90 L (just over 3 cubic feet)
Driver: Dayton Ultimax UMII15-22
T30 screws, M6 x 35mmwith tee nuts
Half-stuffed with polyfill (behind the vertical brace)
Diagonally placed, front left and rear right.
The natural response is approx. -18 dBFS before the amplifier starts objecting, Hypex NC502MP, neon curve (MSO pic.) LR24 @ 80 Hz
There is very little back panel resonance. If both subs are placed front to front, one being inverted, volume can be raised quite high before hearing anything. Used this trick to soften the suspension without too much sound escaping. But the moment one sub is toed slightly the room starts shaking. Accidentally switching to same phase in this config is a powerful reminder.
