That is right, that is where my crossover in my 2-way is set. The woofer to tweeter blend is the best I have ever heard but I want to hear these full-ranges instead. If they are as good as I have heard from you all, that problem will be solved.

well, we as fullrange-adept don't like the crossover that high as it's in the middle of the frequencyspectrum that matters the most. It need to be at least below 500Hz, and preferable (when possible) below 300Hz. The only speaker where the crossover in that range doesn't distub me are big concentrics from Tannoy or the Altec 604. Even in the Spendor BC1 or the modern Harbeth's (some of my favorite commercial speakers) it disturbs the sound a bit for me.

I also run a 2 way, but it's a fullrange (Mark Audio Alpair 10M gen 3) and a subwoofer (Scanspeak 26w/8334G00) crossovered at 180Hz with a passive serial 1st order crossover. And many don't even use a sub, but i'm a bass addict who (also) listen to dub so i need it for much of my music...

All speakers where it is possible to achieve a driver C-C spacing below the 1/4 wavelength at the XO. Much harder to get a coax perfect without some sort of time delay circuit since the frequencies ar eso much shorter.

i have done at least 2, maybe 3 WAWs for people that use ScanSpeak woofers. One is an incrediaby well executed push-push with A7.3. The other used a 12 Scan.

It is certainly possible to do 1st order with a WAW. Trying to do it passively after the amp is a whole lot harder than a hi-level XO.

I heard some very nice Klipsch speakers, but can't remember the model name.

Peerless made some really excellent stuff, again not so well known - assumed often to be mere PA.
As for the EL84, you only need a small socket change, and there's a (several actually) TV scan valve that absolutely whops it in every single category.
On top of that you can get them for about 10USD a pair, NOS and all that.

Most people think TV valves are bad, non linear devices.
Well Bogen didn't.
Their 6AV5 based amps are widely regarded as superb. DB130/230.
They don't blow up with 700V on the anode!
What's not to like? 30W easy and far better more rugged than anything from Philips/Mullard.

Because of the cheapness of scan valves, I simply struggle to understand why people buy "audio" output valves any more, especially at premium prices.
However that stuff wasn't exported to Europe....btw

The "audio" stuff always were inferior, but sold as "audio" because they knew people were ignorant enough to believe the manufacturer's marketing speel.

Not much changes over the years. 🙄

Since I am wanting the combo of both efficiency and good bass, is the idea elsewhere in DIYAudio of a Alpair12pw + AlpairEn7p perhaps a better solution for my requirements? I am following that thread with great interest.

Has anyone who built these got an impedance vs frequency plot?

What is the tuning for the 12pw?

Also this A12pw/A7.3 MTM WAW. This one uses Scott/Woden ML-TL. I may have an impedance curve with the passive XO.

Right now I have the MA 10p's and Seas FA22RCZ side by side in my living room running on a EL84 pp amp. I have to say I prefer the Alpairs over the Seas at a much lower price. The Seas beam and it's hard to get the tonal balance right with the passive filters required. The 10p's image better in a smaller form factor, the Seas go a tad lower but hard to get the mid-top right.

I've built both the Alpair A12p in the regular (not super) pencil and the Seas in a large sealed floorstanding cabinet. I have the A10p in a bookshelf cabinet so can't say how they'd sound in a larger floor standing cab, but I imagine quite well as I love the A10p.

Hey Mario, were the A12p floorstanders the ones you let me borrow at Burning Amp this year? I ask because they sounded absolutely stunning (and thanks again, btw)!

Glad you liked the BA pair a few weeks ago. Those were not the A12p floorstanding pencils. They were essentially the bottom ported chamber only of the simple two way and used the 12pw (optimized for low freq response)...which is why I put the ribbon tweeter sitting on top w second order 8khz hi pass.
