Sony vFET Amplifier Part 2

I don't know how all this will ultimately be handled, but the last of the 400
pair will have arrived to DIYAudio today or so.

I counted my reserves, and I am confident that we will be able to make
another offering before long, so those who are interested should communicate
with management about your needs.

In the meantime I am awaiting 6L6's build for feedback on omissions, errors
and issues.

😎

Thanks Mr Pass
Excellent reason to enjoy

Late to the game...

Thanks to Nelson for making this happen and to all others who have worked on this!!!

I submitted to the wait list last week but have not received a confirmation email. My fingers are crossed that somehow I will still be able to take part in this project.

Jason - will you be sending out another batch of confirmation emails soon?

If you'd post an update for us latecomers it would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

Transformer.

Hi,

What would you recommend as a lowest VA transformer to use for
the build as documented in the latest version of this project?

I have a couple of 2x22VAC, 225VA toroidal transformers. I suspect
one is not quite enough.

The logical thing would be to try a dual mono PS, but with the
mounting brackets and horizontal pcbs, I suspect space will
be at a premium.

Plitron is local, but their 2x22VAC transformers only go up to 300VA.
I'd rather not have to have transformers shipped, since I recently
received a couple of toroidals that were damaged in shipping.

Thanks,
Dennis

I got a pair of the 300VAC 2x24 Plitron transformers for my VFET build. The PSUs described in NP's papers show 2x24 transformers, so thats what I got. I am planning a separate PSU box, which I hope to run the new DIYAudio VFet, and most likely a CSX1 amp based on the Permender's boards that I have.

If I ever get around to checking my 6 pair of vfets for possible matches, I may go further, but doubt I will get matches well enough for the CSX2.

What's wrong with dual mono?
You'll also save yourself some money.

Put the transformers in the case and check how much space you have then make a decision.

I have a bunch of 30Vac secondary transformers... Ive been trying to work out a way to dump some voltage that's, well, sane.

It's that or I build an amp (ie a power supply) to feed the vfet amp voltage. I do have a couple of hefty heatsinks lying around at the moment.

I do not however need another project!

Update: We now have (almost) all the kits in the warehouse, save a few special kits we put together for people wanting 2 matched sets.

  1. There is some work to be done on custom mixing and matching of bits and pieces for a few people who requested partial kits, and that will be done first, over the next few days.
  2. Once that is done (Maybe this Monday?), everyone on the "confirmed list" will be invited to place their order.
  3. After 7 days, people on the "wait list" will be invited to place orders on the remaining kits.
  4. After another 7 days, any remaining kits will be listed on the store

Please ensure you have whitelisted contact@diyaudiostore.com in your email/antispam/etc, added that to your address books, and done everything you need to do to be able to receive email from that address. For all customer service enquiries please email contact@diyaudiostore.com (please don't post in this thread or PM me directly). Thanks 🙂

I will post all the usernames of people on the "confirmed list" and "wait list" shortly, so you can verify your spot, along with final kit pricing.

You could buck the AC voltage down using a transformer with a 5V output. It would only need to have the current to handle the primary of the main transformer, so it would be rather small.
