Thanks Ichiban i know this one is highly useful article
....but i ask about your " first ears" personal experiences
and preamps right choices for the Sony DIY Vfet amplifier ?
What you Diyers use with push-pull 2SJ28| 2SK82 ?
No experience with the PASS Sony Vfet, yet. Sorry.
Hi!
I have collecting during the last year parts to build my Sony Vfet amp. I'm lucky to have enough VFET to build v1 of the board. I got the Sony vfet version 2 AL board but want to check if it's possible to get the original Vfet version 1 board?
Before i start to building.

The store is out of boards, so you either have to find someone who's selling theirs or you can get your own boards made. Nelson generously shared the Gerber files in post #3097:

Maybe it's over my head to do the pcb, but who knows?
🙂🙂
Just send files with dimensions and ask company who produce pcb's.
This is for matched vfets pairs version.

Hi!
You are one!
Thousand thanks to the master himself! 😀

But it was not what i looked for, it was a PCB with two VFET pairs

In post #3150 I meant to finish making my point, which is that even with low costing speakers my VFET amp sounded very good. This might be partly what Nelson meant in his last statement in the instructions, "Start with cheap speakers. (Note how much the amplifier improves their performance...)" I would expect that if I did try it on other speakers, they would sound greatly improved also. I am not sure why and I will not guess. With my Aleph J, it presented a certain "niceness" which seemed to smooth over poor recordings to make everything sound nice. On the other hand my cubie3 was revealing everything, good or bad. It seemed to have more control over the speakers making them put out the exact sound that was sent to them. It has a certain finesse. The VFET amp also made it easy to tell a poor recording from a good one, yet it seems to bring the best out of speakers. (I cannot easily do an A/B comparison because my main speakers are set up for two mono amps with short speaker cable.) In short, I could not really find any fault with the VFET amp; I just enjoyed listening to the music. The people who have finished theirs know what I mean. I am mainly writing this to those of you who have not finished your kit yet, to encourage you that you will not be disappointed. You are in for a real treat. For those without a VFET kit, maybe Nelson can figure out a design for a DEF amp that only uses one VFET so that twice as many kits can be made from the remaining stock. 😎
The next (and probably last) Sony VFET offering is slouching toward Bethlehem
and should be available by the end of the year. I anticipate something on
the order of 400 channels.
It is a single-ended design at 10 watts, and uses either the 2SK82 or 2SJ28
or any other part that is reasonably similar.
It will not be a DEF amp, as we don't have any enhancement mode complements
which have reasonably similar Vgs numbers, and even if we did the process of
matching them would too much effort.
At the moment, the only functioning DEF amps I have on hand use either
the SemiSouth R085 or the SemiSouth SIT-1 transistors.

May there be a method to offer up our name to be blessed by this offering? The last benediction went way too fast. It may be slow to come to the alter but once the Word was out...

I'm not sure but I heard rumors that the store would get some within 2 weeks. I'm not being coy here, I really am not sure, but saw some reference to it..

Been on the computer way too much checking in to Pass forum, following the rumors and any word from Mr. Pass. Desperately trying this time not to miss out! Can't get any work done... http://files.diyaudio.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Thanks a bunch Mr Pass because this gives birth's
of 200 hundred's Sony SIT-3 amplifiers.
Unique chance I am conscious about that fact.
Non many other places on the planet Earth where such miracle happens.
I stay tuned

Ok, It's confirmed, VFET Amp boards that use one pair of VFETS per channel ( just the PCB board pairs, no parts) from the previous group sales will be in the store shortly.
But I misread, I thought you wanted the V2 design... sorry..
We're trying to make the store bigger and better- even more kits! Of course Mr. Nelson Pass is doing more than his share by developing these irresistible, delightful designs..

Christof you became an expert in this thread
I see how the big Soundhappy step to step became in transformer in an First Watt amps conoisseur and expert, I admire to you my dear.
Next Month I will pass trough France in way to Sverige in my motorcycle, please let me make a visit you my friend.😎
Can be from multimeter calibration difference 0,5 V is not critical.
You can verify vfet's bias value and output offset.
Normaly with the trimmers and DMM you can find if all is perfect ?

The offering of single-ended VFETS doesn't have a name yet. I'll have to
come up with something cute.
The DEF amp with the VFET has been dubbed "DEFiSIT"
😛
Dear Papa,
May I ask, have you tried stock DIY Sony VFET Amp in balanced mode, or as ZM suggest to me, fully differential mode?
