I once worked on a project that was supervised by someone who was qualified to supervise street maintenance crews. The original budget was $250M. It came in at $480M. A similar project after that was budgeted at $300M it was supervised by an experienced professional. It came in at $280M!
I have also seen the street painted direction of “SOTP.”

Many of us learned to splice tape out of necessity.
And in those days you could always find similar cassettes on the road side that were tossed out the window by frustrated drivers.
Well, I always used the best quality cassettes (Memorex, TDK, Maxell... Chrome, Metal, MP ) so those were never tossed by the road... but yeah, I learned quickly how to splice tape.
Back in the day, the keyboards had built in printers.

I remember diving for the eject button as soon as the audio started to sound off, hoping to catch it before it ate too much of the tape.
On a side note I used to cut tapes down to the size of the album I was copying. I'd record the longest side first, cut the tape snap it into the wheel and record the shorter side.
I also remember spicing the tape in an 8-track back together that got eaten, but my Dad was worried it might mess something up so he didn't use it...
Wow, I wish I'd thought of that! I used to make a lot of tapes, and it was always a pain having to FF or REW when changing sides! On a side note I used to cut tapes down to the size of the album I was copying. I'm afraid I didn't take a picture of it, but I've just seen someone trying to answer a mobile phone with his ear defenders on - considering that we often "double up" - earplugs under ear defenders, this makes it more amusing.
The way he's standing, I imagine his voice to be like Kenneth Williams'...
I can't help but be reminded of when Peter Griffin raids a drugs den, shouts "reach for the Stars!" - the drugs dealers look puzzled at each other, and one says "I think he means follow our dreams!"
