I—seriously—thought about building me a mobile out of a

In black of course. Imagine me putting my mobile on the table in the restaurant, or taking a call: „Hello?“

I got one of those as a gift years ago... it's likely somewhere in a box with cables and wires and boxes and switches.... I suppose I ought to look for it. It's one of those old analog gizmos.

Totally off topic, I wonder when folks started including closets when they built houses. Mine is around an 1870’s design and has none. It did get indoor plumbing and central heating around 1950.

They put a bathroom in above the start of the staircase and a bit into the two second floor bedrooms.

When I got the house the chimney for the kitchen’s Franklin stove was still intact. Two of the three other rooms had fireplaces.

No north facing windows!

But to lighten the mood, the living room did have an orange shag rug!

Which you undoubtedly know is pronounced Doong.

The day after shoes first went on sale.
There must be ORDER in the dishwasher.
Yes, the fairer sex in this household has not quite grasped this concept having grown up without.

They were called shag rugs for a good reason. You didn't need a pillow or blanket.
Guess it takes all kinds to make the world of dishes go around.
Yes, dishwasher etiquette has gone down the drain, n'est-ce pas?

Installed new interior walls, flooring, windows, staircase, porches, insulation, plumbing, heating system and wiring. I did keep the brick walls and roof.
House circa 1890. Opened all exterior walls, insulated, new tilt wash windows, electric, heating, wiring. Called in a mechanic for gas runs, DWV, and roof. (roof is 45 degrees on a 2 story house, no way I'm doing that. That's what money is for.

PO for youngwood stuff placed a while ago... Was thinkin there would be a field trip. If so, better sharpen the guard dog teeth..

Built in 1890!

In the first phase of my life. There were very nice, expensive buildings in town that were built before 1000AD. If you looked at the external walls of the Cathedral you could see the Roman, Romanesque, Gothic layers... and then they had satellite dishes on the roof.

OTOH, in the 2nd phase of my life. a house build in 1960 is "old".

Mine was build in '69...so we had to rebuild it in 00. New wiring, piping, windows, HVAC, walls, gas lines, stucco, insulation, roof, lights, wired networks, floors... etc... plus we took the freedom of making it larger.. because, you know, a 1800 sq foot home was too small. for us. ;-)

( NOTE: the best money was on the AC wiring... 300A panel... homeruns for the stereos, computers, data closet, HT, etc... ). Lots of wiring ).

Sometimes I think about the Old World... with stuff still standing that was built by the Romans....(*) like the Aqueduct in Tarragona... and then I laugh when I see stuff in the US built in the 1700s and 1800s that is considered "historic"...

The house I grew up at first was built around 1900... the flat around 1920... Sure, we had water, natural gas, electricity, bathroom, Telefunken Radio, Marconi B&W TV... all the modern necessities of life.... until the Big One hits... usually a 5.5. Which, thankfully, hasn't happened since before the protoBasques and Celts showed up.

Then I recall visiting Athens.... it was old before Rome was founded.

(*) My Old Country escaped being bombed wholesale by air armadas during WWII. We just got the precursor, small scale, training exercises.

Reg: All right, but apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, the fresh-water system, and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?
PFJ Member: Brought peace?
Reg: Oh, peace? SHUT UP!
