I wonder how this will sound in one of these @ 35 hz ?

most of these advanced designs, tapped horns, multiple entry horns etc, basically require dsp.
Most active PA subwoofers on the market today come with DSP.
No direct radiator enclosure can beat the clean output that comes out of a BP enclosure.

Where are you using a 5.5" subwoofer?
The wife is about to get a Volvo SUV. I can see 4 of those drivers in this corner. However, for $400, I'd get a NICE 12" to work in that space.
I would TRY to make this driver work. 7.5" mounting depth might be tough to do.

I try and build a new ‘subwoofer’ every few weeks or so to listen, measure, learn, etc .
The more recent expense in wood and drivers forced me to shrink that to keep it reasonable and not a huge waste of $ since most if them end up in the trash eventually to make room for the next. (Plus a few meters of a folded path with a csa for an 18 ds115 is impossible to put anywhere but the garage as a wooden refrigerator 🤓

And strategic offset absorber stubs to target what we are boosting (the 3/4 resonace) , ironically , in a simple folded 1/4 wave pipe .🤷🏼

Mine works exceptionally well. In fact i think it works better because when modeled after the manufacturer specs i would have to use over double the power to get the same spl and there is a huge valley between resonant peaks.
I wish this forum supported video clips. I was wanting to show you guys something in loudspeaker wizard playing with the second resonator size.
This is all a lot like the alternate configuration paraflex ?

high ebp woofer should deliver a "harder" sound in high order quarter wave enclosures but im not sure the effect is easily modeled. It will also amplify the resonances.Intersting if these ‘high QTs’ drivers work well in these
The 12 would be in sealed enclosure.Interesting if these ‘high QTs’ drivers work well in these
The wife is in social marketing so no enclosure between the rear wheel wells or using the spare tire well as an enclosure.
I would build something like this.
Whew, that's a $500-600 subwoofer!
16.8mm Xmax with 3.46" shallow mounting...$$$

That's what Tom Danley does with his TH's.

Put the video on YouTube then send the link.

And in tapped horns (or horn loaded shapes) the Fb suffers do to lack of motorforce (or maybe overly tight suspensions) to excite the fundametal resonace of such a ‘tight’ resonator ? I get a bit confused with the car audio SPL drivers verses high end PA drivers and wish they would hurry up and build something in between (it’s coming soon, so more people can build big tapped horns and pipes in huge car audio builds )
Maybe, but its also flat with the middle of its passband with lower wattage.
This big bass reflex /MLTL design sucks and all of that area with the blue arrows is lifeless and ‘thud’, not ‘thump’.. (I think that’s what you’re referring to ‘middle of the passband’ as well?)
The tighter ‘qw pipe’ sure helps that .

This stuff is weird ? (I put 100grans of polyfil in that big resonator). The drivers not ‘in it’, so it never experiences the ‘high pressure’ of the closed end?
- Home
- Loudspeakers
- Subwoofers
- So i impulse bought a sub. What would you do with it?
