So I did try all those different potentiometers

stepped attenuators

hello nuuk,
i read with interest your comments on the dale vishay attenuators, i'm new to this forum and just completed the 41 hxz amp 6 basic. i now want to add the dale vishay (50k) and perhaps replace the feedback resistors. would this be suitable or ott given modest price of the amp. i'd appreciate your comments please

This is kind of late in the piece but I've been using a vishay/sfernice P11 series linear 100K stereo cermet pot with 2 x 10K vishay bulk foil "law fake" resistors in a passive for about 10 years. It seems this is now referred to as a "rod elliot" pot, but at the time this was the suggested config listed in the Russ Andrews Audio catalog. The pot is a bit sloppy now but sound quality is superb. The PA11 conductive plastic might have the egde, but these parts are difficult to source 1 off.

cheers
Paul

Guess I'm not the only person who thinks the P11's are pretty special

Sloppy matching

These are great sounding, or lack of sounding pots. But the matching on sections is not good.
My honest suggestion is to use a pair of mono pots. Five mono pots is about the same price as one stereo and then you can maybe match up two pair. I think with 10, four pairs matched up pretty close.

Re: Part Number Please

What is the part number for the stereo pot

please? PEC or US-Digikey number.

PEC part# for a stereo pot I used is KKA2531S28. It is possible to obtain them as samples.

They are also listed on page 1561 of current digikey catalog (stereo pots are available now as well). As noted earlier, channel matching may be problematic. Although they were 10% tolerance, variations of 6db were quite common.

Hello from France,

Just received a PEC 100K pot and would like to know how to connect it.

Is this scheme correct ?
(found for other attenuators)

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

I tried :

A : ground 0
B : signal input
C : signal output to amp

BUT in this configuration I have, I measure :

Attenuator full left (supposed to give no sound) :
R input = 1.2 Kohms
R output = 2 ohms

Attenuator full right (supposed to give sound max) :
R input = 1.2 Kohms
R output = 1.2 Kohms

I do not understand those values cause the attenuator is a 100K !
Could you please help me ?
Thank you alot,
Regards

The lightspeed makes a difference. I am using it in the MyREFc and its fantastic. Very clear/transparent. If you are looking for that 'smudge' effect Peter was getting with the PEC maybe you need to modify it a bit with an extra resistor or something. I like the precision. The MyREFc does a nice job of producing something very smooth so that those unlistenable discs are again enjoyable. I really liked my regular LM3886 P2P amps and they were even more precise, but I found so many discs that I couldnt listen to anymore. So, this combo I am very pleased with.
BTW I have tried DACT style stepped, wirewound (very nice), carbon, and B1 with wirewound. I like the Lightspeed the best.
