Slewmaster - CFA vs. VFA "Rumble"

Hi Patrick,

The problem with a group buy is that there is extra time and shipping involved. I can get boards made and shipped to me for about $6 each. The shipping alone is more than that from Europe. I hate giving half my money to the shipping companies. That is money I can use to buy components.

Hi Terry, how many pcbs you may order and take for $6 each ?

I think you have to order in groups of 5. Last time I did this I ordered 10 to have even numbers. It was less than $60 including shipping. Those were large boards like these. I'm not trying to ruffle any feathers or get out of line here, but I am constantly building and any place I can save some time and money makes a difference.

His Krisfr,

Not sure about FR-4. Don't know what that means. Yes on the 2oz. You can check them out here. They made the boards in two days but I chose the cheapest shipping so it took over three weeks to arrive. They are very nice boards. I am attaching a picture of them.

The <$6 each was including shipping.

FR-4 (aka FR4), is a widely accepted international grade designation for fiberglass reinforced epoxy laminates that are Flame Retardant

Did you send them Sprint files? What size are the boards you sent them?

They look super, I do not mind the wait on shipping gives me time to get parts together...:D

I saw the size on the board and they want 14 ea for them with shipping...

Hi Krisfr,

I sent them Gerber files. The best way is to send the files and they will send a price quote. My boards were 3 1/4" x 7 1/2" and they were less than $60 for 10 boards including shipping. If Patrick sends me the Gerbers I will get a quote and let you know. These output boards that OS designed will be really nice to have on hand. I'm sure they can be adapted to a lot of different topologies. I can probably use 10 just for myself.

Good to see interest ....

Did some squarewave tests on my SYM ... it nearly oscillated !! :(

Coming close to (failure) is a good thing for me. The sansui/HK 3
cap compensation... (Below 1) was the key.

The C6 and 7 , in the right combination (ratio 1:10) ... allows
you to use a much smaller C7. As well as being able to push the
amps bandwidth up to CFA UG freq's ( 1.0-1.4mhz) , you can have
CFA slewrates , as well
(symasui CLG BODE - below 2).

C5 is the "lag" ... with the right value you can eliminate "peaking"
(below 3-4 .. WRONG VALUE) - peaking = overshoot and ringing on a high slew square wave.

In fact, you can "round" the edges of a 125V+/uS rise-time square wave
without affecting the slew. (below "fixed" - 5-6)

Here it is ... the (up to) 150V/us slew , "ungodly" output level ..ultra
low THD (better) "SYMasym" ... (below attachment).
Pretty PCB ... too (last pix) .

HK990 is interesting (especially the bias circuit) but hmmmmm ....

I just noticed they have +/-80v rails but use a 0.25w feedback resistor.
naughty, naughty (also surprising) from HK.
:(

Boards might be available soon ..... professional. :dice:

These days , even the best amps are willing to go back to the "classic"
(below) . I heard this one (repair) /// it rocks !! 21'st century Leach ...

They put the whole IPS in SMD. (small)

Kindhornman said HK has a 10:1 markup. In order to
get that much amp manufactured for 250$ , all sourcing
would have to be scrutinized. (CHEEP) :(

We DIY'ers can use 1/2W-1W R's on our VAS's/FB/power circuits. I even
put those longer lead space pads in my layouts. I want
decades ----> recap - for my designs. :)

Hi Guys,

I got a quote for the boards that Patrick sent the Gerbers for. I'm not sure which ones they are because I don't know how to open them. This is the description for the boards.

Material: FR-4
Layers: 2
Board Thickness: 1.6mm
Copper Thickness: 1/1 oz
Surface Treatment: HASL
Green Solder mask, White Silkscreen
Dimension: 76.1mm x177.8mm

The price for 10 boards not including shipping is $40.74 US.

For the same boards with 2 oz copper the price is $62.25 US

Again, this does not include shipping.
