That looks like one of the Craftsman's that I had.
It just might be too big. On mine I stripped it out
and broke a couple of taps, this was using USA
steel taps, tapping aluminum for carburetor jets.
I was using coconut oil for a safe lube.
went through a few more handles until I found
one with better Collete (sp), ended up stripping
the threads anyway so had to move from 6-32 to
8-32, but got it working.

Good luck and buy some extra taps. I also
ended up using kerosine for lube.

I am patiently waiting for news of the new OPS
that OS designed. Are all the bugs worked out
of the design?

If you did plug some "bad IPS" into the slewmaster you better bet that the EF3 would instantly fry your speakers or let you hear a "screwup". The OPS is just a precision "magnifying glass" . poop in , poop out !

Is there a simple output protection device?

We typically don't see a lot of speakers being zapped from Tube
amps because they have output transformers.

I learned my lesson in about 5 minutes by frying $1200 in British
and American speakers taking in a "friends" all in one PA/Mixer/Amp.

It was plug it in here, vintage Fender 2 x 12, hmm sounds funny, stopped working. Remove jack, plug it in 4 x 12 speaker cabthat has plenty of capacity, sounds funny, too Oh Shirt....too late. They fried.

oh yeah that does help a lot too, but I just need to know what size tool I need to hold the 4-40 tap I have the wrong size tool 🙂 is ok I love tools but I need the correct one I don't want it to try out and then break the tap, I read those things are like glass fragile

Regards
Juan

I just use a pair of locking pliers (Vise-grips). The taps are far less fragile than a
drill bit.

When you test an amplifier without protection circuit, ALWAYS USE a 4700uf capacitor in series with speaker.😉

Now that is good to know. Thanks Thimios.

How are you coming along on your tube hybrid?
What tube are you using and where?
Which board are you modding to use a tube?

OS, please don't get pissed...there is just something about tubes
that is nice.

Kind of like that movie, "Something about Mary".
even if it is comedy. : )

Seriously? More badmouthing China? I say we wait for Juan's assessment.

China just makes do with what they have.

Their aluminum extrusions are beer cans and various other imported scrap.
Besides a slight "hit" in thermal conductivity , they are cheap and
they work.

Their steel is crap , I have stripped , snapped the steel of any <5$
"disposable tool ". Walmart bikes will fail in a month of hard use. Steel bearings
are "flat" in no time.
Lawn tools , lawnmowers , trimmers .... all last a month. Steel is either soft
or brittle.
Any surviving tools that have been in my caddy for years are Japanese , Taiwanese,
USA , or German.

Chinese hydrocarbon products (rubber/plastics)- are mostly filler based ,
filled with stinky industrial waste and heavy metals. Just take a "whiff" at
your local dollar store.

No , we won't pick on the Chinese .... But they make what they make !
( not junk , "economical"/disposible).

Actually their metal is whatever you order from them. If you order junk you get junk. Unfortunately most are ordering junk so that's what everyone assumes is all that is available. I use Chinese 304 sanitary stainless for exhaust systems. It's beautiful stuff. Much better than US made Magnaflow stainless exhaust. Magnets stick to theirs, but not my Chinese stuff.

China PCB's...

Besides making a product that could fail , Glass epoxy is hard to make "cheap".
Just like polyethylene. The primary materials are REAL cheap , no need to
use "fillers" like in more advanced polymers.

Asia also has many rare earths (and copper). China also has a big stake in the
Chile/Peru "pile" of copper.

So , a China PCB should be as good or better than any globally - they don't need
to "cut corners" to make a good product .
