Anyone know where to get the insulation everyone uses in their FH3's to line the cabinets? CSS has a version here: Creative Sound - Product Details but I can't wait the time to get it shipped from Canada. Is a similar product stocked at a normal store I could go to? Sorry, I know a random question 🙂

Have you done a search on "recycled denim"? There is a local distributor a couple of miles away from us. See if there's one by you:
Bonded Logic - OEM Solutions
I have not checked the price locally, but that's probably secondary unless it's just stupid.

Nice! I didn't even think about that. I found a couple local places I'll contact.
Thanks!

The stuff we use and that Bob sells comes in 200 ft rolls. You might find that a bit much.

Yeah I emailed one of the places stating I only needed 4 or so square feet. We'll see if I get a reply 😀 I'd just buy it from Bob but I need it sooner than waiting for transit (I didn't plan very well). OOPS!

You might check with upholterers/auto upholterers for something similar.
dave
Oh ok so its a similar type of product? Can carpet padding be used as well or is that a no-no?

Usually a wool poly blend in the same thick felt format. Someone said (in the FH3 build thread?) that the stuff out 60s or 70s Fords or GMs was ideal, so you could check the local wreckers as well.

It's a relatively short drive from Monroe to the border - maybe you could meet Bob for a coffee.

LOL! I forgot to change my location, I'm in Portland. If I was still in Monroe I'd be down for a road trip 🙂 I went to school up in Canadia (Trinity Western U) and always love an excuse to head to the Great White North. Its a little longer drive from Portland though 😀

Wow. For some reason, I read Monroe, WA as Monroe, LA. It's a fer piece from Louisiana. 😱
My eyes must be getting as old as I am. I also have a problem with short term memory. I also have a problem with short term memory.

well, so you'd have to stop in Seattle for a visit and pee-break at Doc Bottlehead's - it only takes a little planning
just a thought

LOL! Yeah that's just a wee bit off on location 🙂
Short term memory, what's that??

Oh yeah, lack of planning is what got me here 🙂 I think I found a local place to get a similar product so I'll probably just go by there and pick it up for this round then order a couple rolls of it from Bob for the next go round.
The denim product is by Ultra touch. Some of the big box stores like Home Depot will carry it in 2" thick packages of about 4 ft sq. Just tease it apart to reduce it. I bought mine at Rona.
I stopped by a local upholstery store today and picked up some wool carpet padding. Very nice stuff and good price too, $5 per yard. We'll see how well it works! Thanks for all the help everyone!!

I've been working on another project which is why this one isn't progressing very much anymore. I hope to make progress this weekend as I don't have any plans that will necessarily draw me away. I'm now thinking of doing white cabinets again after looking at some other white cabinets with the gold MA drivers ... Oh the dilemmas 🙂
White Pensils are cool! It'll go with your modern furniture and stuff too. 🙂 I've done my FH Mk3s - have you started?

I think white would go well too 🙂 I really think I might do it that way instead of the gray ...
I haven't started on any FH3's. I'd still really like to but just don't have space at the current house. I really need a dedicated space so I can have as many speakers as I want 😀
Finally kicked myself last night and took these downstairs to finish. I picked out my color: Stealth Jet in Eggshell and will go pick up the paint tomorrow morning. Hopefully I can get them done this weekend but don't want to rush so it may not be till early next week. I'll post pics during the progress but here they are taken apart and showing the "extra bracing" I did.
