I'm not sure if p2p has that much of advantage comparing to well designed board. It's certainly safer for some people to do p2p than work with badly designed pcb.

BTW, how badly designed does a PCB have to be for it to become unsafe?

That's one reason I'm not using that often PCBs these days. I much prefer p2p, 3D layout, because although it does not look that good, it sounds better.

Maybe not mutually exclusive but a little confusing for those wanting to know where it is you stand on this...
Whether you like it or not you now are a GURU and are expected to act like one: confident and opinionated are good places to start.

So, wouldn't it have been easier to just say:

O.K., if it were me I'd rather use P2P for best sound but it's just too time consuming and not ideal for repeatability so we chose to go for PCB in production units?

From a production/economical POV there are at least half a dozen other reasons why not to go for P2P but I suppose you caught my drift by now.

Actually, we go p2p in production units.

Why couldn't I be using a similar approch? Although I'm not an expert in electronics, I'm pretty good at other things (needed to put a piece of stereo unit together).

Certainly.
Nothing wrong with that at all, it's just that we can't possibly excell at everything so we best stick with what we do best.
At least, that's what I'd do.... even though it can be tempting sometimes.
