Semisouth Aleph J?

So you are using 2 parallel SJ74 per leg of the differential pair and reduced its drainresistor? What is the tailcurrent you are running?

With transistors, it is supposed to be beneficial to implement the same resistor in both legs of a differential pair to improve the matching... even if you don't need the second resistor. It also balances the power in the semiconductors of both legs. Don't know if that is significant though...

Thanks for all the sharing, Cody!

Yes, I was going for more of a J2 configuration on the front end. I Used 100R gate resistors and really tight Idss matching. Regarding the schematic, this front end tweak is the only real deviation from an AJ. I have a busy weekend, but hope to post more details soon.

just to add to the fire

small Aleph J pcb, Boyz are testing now, also applicable for SS thingie

Cool! Are you talking about a new board from the store?

Yes, it should. I’ve no excuse anymore, I’ve been wanting to make it really good on release and keep having projects jump in line before...

It’s such an amazing circuit that it’s sad (and completely my fault) it’s been languishing for so long.

Once Vfet is done, I promise. Sooner if PA can take the ball and run with it... 🙂

6L6, No excuses needed!

We.lucky.few are blessed to have your help with these projects. Really, how many of us could have been successful in our builds without your holding our hands every inch of the way? A few, sure, but I would have been lost (and made some smoke) without your help.
My request is that you take all the time you need to do the work you want. And accept my thanks. - David

🙂 I will do my best. Another set of "beta" boards are off to CodyT early next week.

Truer words have never been spoken.

I don't have anything to blame 6L6 - I understand him completely - even if my a$$ isn't, my head is more between the clouds than isn't

Serious biz, his one, even if it looks romantic for us aside, I can't even imagine process of mental switching from that to more profane activities of life

New Gerbers revision V1.11

Only one fix and other is pure cosmetics.

PCB drill hole for M3 mounting increased from 3.1mm to 3.2mm.
3.1mm is too small. Would still fit but dead tight.
I measure various boards I have with digital caliper and test them with M3 bolt.
IMO 3.2-3.3mm hole size are the best fit.
3.4-3.5mm is big.

Cosmetics.
Smothen right angles from big traces.
Moved + on electrolytic capacitors silkscreen deeper from edges to look more pretty.

if you want to obey your own decision ........ just don't open the file

if you open it, you'll change something .... been there..... and still I am

True true... 😀

There’s an old Italian saying “Più guardi qualcosa, più diventa brutto” or something similar. Roughly translated “the longer you stare at something, the uglier it becomes”. You’ll always find fault or something to change.

You’ve done an excellent job. Be proud of it! Thanks for your effort and making this design a available.
