SEAS A26 Devore Style Build

Planning to place an order for the A26 + Morel driver combination based on the positive accounts here this far. Just some clarifying questions before adding crossover etc parts to the cart.

Looking specifically at @planet10 ’s larger box design (ported) SEA-Ken-OV80 on p.3, could the port be moved to the underside or rear, if aperiodic slot is no longer needed, or would the sealed version be preferable? Efficiency is preferred, but SQ is paramount within 90 vs 87-89db.

Oh and confirming this is the preferred crossover for the golden ratio baffle design >

I’m with Frank, would be interested to hear about the phase plug material and magnet modifications you’ve had success with Patrik96 😀

Perfect, thanks. Yeah I’ll be mounting the ver to the back for easy fiddling.

Plan is probably to use 18mm birch ply, double baffle or the steel as CLD (borrowed from the OSMC thread - something to approach the 1.5” solid wood baffle by our fellow member!), start with that Xover in the screenshot above, stands a la the ‘Makako’ above.

I like the potential to change the Morel for Seas Exotic tweeter later on too…

Adding a mid driver would make this an entirely different speaker, with a much more complicated crossover. Sure it's possible, it's diy after all, regardless of what some members say.😉 Besides, the A26 seems to cover the mids pretty well.

Oh, definitely, my brain is in "active DSP" mode. I have an 8-channel DAC and have been thinking of getting an 8 channel MiniDSP Dirac processor.

I always thought adding the bucking magnet for shielding weakened the qts (made it go higher).

My theory has been a stronger qts may have less distortion (maybe harmonic) due to the stronger magnet keeping the truer electrical signal to motion....

I thought qts also had to do with transients, but i'm not sure due to bob brines (i think loosely) saying "once full range drivers were eq'd flat, they basically sounded the same."

And the slight resistance of the inductor ran in series with the a26, that would make the qts go higher needing a bigger box (ideally).
Maybe the bucking (adding) magnet could offset the loss of qts from the inductor.........

A .707 sealed for 2.61ft3 (74L), that gives fsb = f3 = 45hz, very respectable for a sealed.

So add inductor, fudge area up to 3ft3 (85L ?) and call it a day ?

Since no one is worried about 6db time alignment these days, why not skip the coil in series with a26 and instead notch that 1.7k down a bit.
The kit from madisound doesn't inductor the a26.

(In reference to a26 kits)
"Underhill. They are very nice. I have built 3 pairs of their kits for friends.
Also swapped the seas t35 tweets for the morel cat 378 in one pair and everyone that listen to the pair with the morels prefered them."

I wonder what he did for values around the cat378.....
