I have followed this topic for a long time, but cant get what the Box specifications are. Any one kind enough to enlighten me. I read there is a DIY Cab but cant find it, then there is an SB cab which is only available with kit. Am in London and want to build the DIY version.

Another Satori DIY speaker

Hi,
Maybe off topic, but since it's difficult to get the Kalasan here in Europe, I bought a kit from Intertechnik from Germany (it's somewhat more expensive though), called the Satorique 1, designed by some french guy who is a former Focal engineer.
What can I say? Amazing! Best bookshelf speaker I ever heard. It has 18 litres volume, and a rather complex crossover. There is an article here: http://www.loudspeakerbuilding.com/...Formula-of-small-speakers_8636,en,901195,9871
And the kit is selling here: BS/Satorique 1 | Loudspeaker kits with SB Satori | Speakers Intertechnik

Would like to compare to Joachim's design, anybody has it out there?

maybe the deal between JG and them has been collapsing !

I like the idea to use this driver in a sealed enclosure with a better tweeter and a bass enclosure. Could be possible to XO as low: between 100 to 150 e.g. !
The french review of intertechnik writes it is more clearer than a scan speak or even an Eton or ceramic Acuton and without sounding "paper" !

The Intertechnik kit and designer reviewer was liking more a ScanSpeak R2904 for its beautifull tones than the SB29 despite a lesser directivity of the last tweeter ! Maybe each time SB want designer uses the SB29 (distributor agreement ?).

But despite its 90 db for the 4 ohms units, could it be more dynamic & punching than a pro unit with a greater BL/mms ratio to use as a mid-bass to medium unit ? Well the first resonance is very low 🙂 and the climbing distorsion atoun 900 hz - 1000 hz seen in the zaph graph is certainly not a problem if choosing a lower XO (1000 to 1200 hz) but which tweeter ! Ah 2 cents theory ! I'm sure the design of Johachim Gerard with all him experience must be astonishing. And if it's rocks in the mid bass a not to low bass is not a problem in a normal room... did you listen to a Kef 104/2 reference with its poor 50 hz low end (without Kubes unit) : it rocks 🙂

Ah strange we don't see more 3 ways with this unit, maybe the 5" or 4" is best for this exercice ?
regards

I'd rather say that the french designer prefers rather the TW29 than the Scan-Speak, or at least as good - which I can confirm. Not as spectacular as some Beryllium tweeters, but sweet and transparent.
SB has now a 5" version of the mid-woofer (https://www.intertechnik.fr/Shop/Ha...cs-Satori/_Satori-MW13P-8_1768,fr,7033,154840).

My only " deal " with SB was to design a kit.
I did that and this is documented here.
I am really sorry but i do not know when and how the cabinets will be availlable.
That frustrates me as well as you because the cabinet is rather pretty, even unique and i put in a lot of energy to design it.
I wish it would be availlable to all of you that are interested.

Hi Joachim,

Thank you for that, I have any doubt of the great sounding of this kit due to your talent and the great sounding of your finished speakers you brand by your own. Very famous and sounds great to my ears btw. So thanks for sharing here with us.🙂

I certainly missunderstood the concept. In my mind a kit is ready if the diyer have all the plans to do also the cabinet himself. If you gave already all to permitt to do the kit ourselves, according to me there is no reason members complain : the great work is the design, XO, not to have pre-cut bafles !

Even if it's a win/win for the speaker seller and the Customer to source such ready to glue bafles! More easy to do = more sells of course, but this is not our business , at worst : a non important wisch from us, lazy diyers !

So a pre cut wood kit is just a commodoty and just more facility for the final listener. Due to the cost shipping, the wood is not easy for travelling ! Here in France we have few speaker shops and none of them distrib complete kits designed by the drivers makers anymore! Wood works is an addition cost the speaker kit shop charge you if they are in relation with a local wood artisan, and here this is their own design ! But again if a precise plan is already given : we have just to spend a little more to allow them to cut the baffles or give the plan to a wood artisan which has CNC Tools ! As you know, our local drivers brands for the one which distrib yet some drivers (Focal, Audax, PHL, EMS-speakers) are not designing kits for the diyers anymore...

Do you believe your design with port sealed could work to add a sealed woofer below it ? If yes, what slope filter and XO -3 db would you advise please ? Of course with approximation to help each diyer to accomodate with its own prefered Woofer ! And not to waste the subjective speed and clarity of the Satori ! Maybe a non sense according to you : better for us if 3 way to go with the lower Satori size drivers ? I believe this 6.5 size could be great to have a low woofer Xo due to the very low resonnance (< 30 hz) of this Satori driver which can permitt to have a XO around two octaves above !

I thinked of something like 12" or 15" !

Sorry for the approxamativ English,

All the best,

Eldam

🙂... Make me think to my actual Boston Lynfirld 400 L : 125 hz L2 mid to a third slope band-pass woofer made by an electical L2 + the first order of the sealed band pass cabinet which radiate behind (reverse you spoke or was it about polarity ??).

The woofer has 2x 7"... 35 hz to around less 125 hz... not totally symetric : same design John Atkinson reviewed with the Boston Acoustic Lynnfield 500 L (same XO though bigger bass cabinet than the 400L) !
