Funny thing, one of my profs was the State Champion with
Slide Rule, then they became obsolete....I don't think he
ever recovered from that.

we used books w tables of logarithms and trig functions. I used the same my dad had when he studied metallurgy at Case Institute in 1941.
...and I still have my CRC
We apparently went to different schools together. I also have the CRC "Standard Math Tables", though the frequency I refer to it has declined from a few times per week (circa mid 70's) to once a year or so.
But in High School and undergrad years I carried an earlier, 25 year old version of that publication because it was the size of a paperback book, so it fit nicely into my pants pocket. And . . . my copy had been used by MY dad, when he took a couple of mechanical engineering courses at Case, circa 1947. I still have the book, or at least its remains, since the binding has disintegrated.
(My dad never finished that degree. I suspect my mom had something to do with that - like my own experience, a new wife tends to distract your attention and energy from academic pursuits.)

Re: HP339 PS. All points well heeded. Obvious that HP optimized this analyzer as has been described and as typical it just works and keeps on working. Unless someone does something to make it not work.
More to do and learn.

Not sure if it's been discussed but while inquiring about the QA405, Quant Asylum said they were looking to update the software to include a display of the distortion residual. When I asked if this software update would apply to the QA400, they said yes. They're still not sure if they'll provide a separate jack on the QA405 for the distortion residual. I know the following link has already been provided but I'm pasting here too for those who want to jump to the QA405 page.
