I found a new material for making cones and it seems to work better that both Depron and paper.
The weight for the cone is 2.9 gram threaded with epoxy, so it's not that bad. Note the extreme long fibres in the material....It work perfectly for a full range unit even without any wizzer, I was a bit surprised that it work that well.... I will keep you in suspense a bit more on the choice of material

I took a small video, on a simple setup, not the best sound quality on the cam. But I here it is anyway.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADge3vtgtlM&feature=youtu.be
Take care

Will be nice to see where this project is this time next year.
There will be a field coil compression driver i'm sure. It's been on my mind for too long.
Hi,
This is the martial I found and tested. It is made from fibreglass, but the fibres are thicker than other fibreglass I have worked with also the fibres is directed in a non uniform way. It is used for wall mount, a from for reinforcement for the wall.
The weight of a 115 mm cone is 0.5 grams including the tape on the back but without epoxy, the thickness is 0.25 mm. It is relay quit stiff in it self, but it needs some sort of treatment to make it airtight. I used black epoxy colour to make it look nicer.
Here is some pictures:

I have thought about it too 😉
and it is indeed very similar looking to the fiber I once knew as the lightes and finest fiber cloth available for yacht building
it was used as first layer when doing a new mold

Finishing Tissue perhaps?
You can get cloth down to 0.7oz per square yard, I used it a lot in Aeromodeling.

yep there is a lot of exotic fiber mats and cloths out there one just needs to know where to look.
Here is a link to a German shop, you can get just about anything in fibres here: Fiber reinforcements | R & G Faserverbundwerkstoffe GmbH
Yeah that's the best I have found the problem is I think they ship from Germany so expect a high shipping charge of around 50 usd.

Wow, that i would love to see.
I am considering a DIY Bass compression driver, along the lines of YL Acoustics D 1250.
subsequent experiments, the paper cone in layers of fragments of shells, of pearl shell
sounds more natural 😀
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

That is a challenge. Published research on bass compression drivers is almost 0 (at least i didnt came across any).
This January i will complete a 44mm phase plug designed based on Henricksen's paper which i found of much value. I will then test it on an existing CD and if the design holds any value i will start on the rest. Not decided if i will go for 44mm or larger formats. I think there is more appeal for the larger formats.
Wow, everybody is so busy building and experimenting, i dont wanna fall behind 😀
the mid-bass units are in tests
Features:
Field coil motor
2" bullet phase plug
Ryu spider
Dual voice coil
Measurements hopefully tomorrow.

Unfortunately that spider will have very "springy" radial control compared to a normal modern spider. Whether anything will ever excite it dynamically is a complex issue, but it will certainly relax eccentrically depending on mount orientation.
