I have a project coming up shortly using the SMPS300RE +/-45V version. So I consider this a test if this PS is suitable for Class A(B). The SMPS300RE is specifically sold as been suitable for audio amplifier use with amp designs that have a reasonable PSRR. I guess soon I will find out. 😀

Couldn't agree more. I've been using Connex SMPSs (of all variants and outputs) for several years now. Even keep a couple on the shelf should I get the urge to build another amp! 🙂 Even have 2 in my prize, dual mono First One amp completed a couple years ago.I won't just give it away (like my 20 amps on diya 😀).
I like AB analog reproduction ...... but Tesla was right , 50 or 60hz is "dino".

A badger or slewmaster connected to this has UN - measurable PSRR.
My design uses a more advanced sine based controller that also allows
realtime output changes - smart class G !!!
2 pair output devices on any AB amp = 250W.
Your big bulky 40KG amp turns into a 10kg one with far superior specs.
No more melted screwdrivers , a blown output stage will not emit "magic
smoke" for long (or at all).
I have shorted and abused the connex SMPS - it is SOLID ! Actually better
than the best PC SMPS's.

They are well-built and solid. Never have had any issues with them!
How much noise does this SMPS have?
I measured about 100mVpp with the PS idling and additional 4400uF low ESR capacitors connected to the rails.

Is such a SMPS300RE enough for an Amp with 2 Output Pairs? Simple Calculation: With the 36V version and 4 Ohm load a peak current of 9 Amp will be needed on each side. So normally a 2*36V*9A=650VA source is necessary.I won't just give it away (like my 20 amps on diya 😀).

Proto 420Wrms 2ohms @60Vdc supply class D full bridge amplifier based on TL494 PWM modulator. Power MOS : 20n50 drived by IR2112. LP filter toroidal coil becomes very hot @ 125kHz (limited by IR2112 max output current).

What a great concept! Practical too!
You have solved the biggest reasons we see equipment in for repair. You can't set any other component on top. Manuals and paper set on top with a little force only goes down so far. But the #1 repair we don't like to see .... no cat pee!!!! (not unless he's just resting). 🙂

This one looks good. I think, we're going to test one of those. After all, that's what many pro-grade stage amps are: SMPS + class D. Plus controlled fans. However - no fans in the home audio, please 🙂

My e-Amp - still beautiful after all these years 😀
I built this in 2012 when I lived in Taiwan and it spent almost a year in storage while I lived in Shanghai in 2015 and its been in the garage since December 2015 back here in England. I hauled it out today and will try to fire it up in the next few days - hopefully I can get some performance measurements done as well. This is a VFA amplifier. Will do about 200 Watts per channel into 8 ohms. Its large and very imposing. ~165 000 uF filter capacitors and a very large, screened transformer. Might do things a little differently now if I did another VFA, but this was a very good learning experience for me.

The tape over one of the caps in the PSU is holding in place some spare programmed microcontrollers. I did that in case the one on the controllerboard ever went faulty - no way I could find the s/ware (written in C on the Keil IDE) or even the uC again - 8 bit Phillips device no longer in production I believe.
