So I then changed the rules in /etc/udev/rules.d/95-ads7846.rules to:

There are fixed resolutions for the VU Meter screensaver and 1024x600 is not in the list (320x240, 480x320, 800x480, 1280x400). So you will see it not in full screen if you will use the resolution 1024x600. So, either switch to 800x480 or resize the meter images to the resolution 1024x600.

Thanks for your reaction. Right now I am not yet looking at screensavers, but good to know. Will write it down with the other information I have collected up till now.
By the way, I was wondering if there is a default language setting. I want Dutch which I can do by disabling the other languages. That may however be inconvenient when I want to listnen to for instance US radio stations quickly.

There is no need to disable languages if you want to use only one as a default language. You just select the one which you need in the languages menu - the first image on this page:

Thank you for your input. I did not note that the selected language was stored during shutdown, likely because I was working on the touchscreen and did quite some hard shutdowns which likely did not store the earlier selection......
In the mean time I have another small issue. I am using a USB sound dongle.
Want to be able to change the volume as sound now comes out at max volume.
The description in the doc for USB Sound Card does not mention volume and Volume Control via the WEB pag does not help me forward either.

Today I tried to connect a cd player. The software does recognise the player and actualy shows the tracks on screen. However when I want to play the CD I get the audio of the last selected radio station out of the speakers?? As it takes a while before sound appears and I can 'move through the track", so it looks like a buffer gets filled with the radio stream.
I noted in earlier entries in this thread that it was your intention to drop the CD function in the future, but I assume this is not the case yet in the latest software?
Can you shine your much appreciated light over this?

That's right, if you don't shutdown using the player's Shutdown button then the current settings will not be saved.
Regarding a volume control, you can run either command 'amixer' or 'alsamixer' in a Pi terminal. It will give you the ALSA mixer name. That name should be defined as a parameter 'amixer.control':

When using a SSD drive anyway it does not make real sense to keep the SD card with the OS and software, also because the SD is known to be less reliable over time. To do this USB boot must be working of course.
So before I start to re-invent the wheel I decided to put the question on the forum.
