Pass SLOB Build Discussion

DSP seems to be a good way to work out the filters, and I have had quite good luck with translating those curves to simple linear buffered networks, as SL and I did with the LXmini. Easy to use a simulator like Microcap or LTspice to work up the values, and it works like glue... My circuit for the SLOBs at Speaker Camp is the same as for the LXmini except RC values and this is the ACN 6-12 board available in the Store.

Thank you, Nelson. Much appreciated. Looks like I’ll be in the market for a DSP! Any comment on whether it’s feasible (or a stupid idea) to use the Alpha and Delta woofers together? I have 2 of the LFA’s, but it doesn’t look like those are available anymore to get a second set.
 
I followed Nelson’s recipe and went with the W8-1808 and the Definimax 15” 4015LF in his SLOB configuration. I used a B5 with a DIY F5 feeding the full rangers. I used a mini DSP to play around with settings before moving over to the B5. There was a very noticeable difference between the mini DSP and B5. The end result is awesome. Thanks Nelson!!!
Thanks @feds27. Can you tell me which miniDSP you used? I have zero experience with digital crossovers … all my crossover work to date has been passive. From Nelson‘s response (post #421), and your experience, it sounds like I should be able to dial these in with the miniDSP and them convert those settings to a non-DSP network using the ACN board. I’ll readily admit that I have a LOT of studying up to do before that ever happens, as I have no experience with building a network around that board either. But if I can at least get going with. MiniDSP that would make me feel better about tackling the project.

Nice work. Are the baffle studs tapped into the wood or do they have some kind of insert?
The studs are double ended 'wood to metal' dowels. I glued hardwood blocks into the side panels to give them more purchase and also used epoxy glue to secure them. The baffles use blind furniture nuts to bolt them onto the studs.

Although the project is going well, the small hollow at the top right of the baffle is really bugging me - it's the result of a momentary lapse when I tilted the router over a fraction. I think I'll put a slightly larger radius on the top corners of the baffles to remove the problem.
 
Routers are fun. I was once routing a dado into a board on my 50's Powermatic table saw. Well, the depth adjustment slipped quite a bit and cut about a 1/16" deep groove into my cast iron table top... That groove is still there.

Maybe you can wood fill and get creative with a little paint/stain for the lines?
 
Eminence Alpha A15s...I've bought a pair of them cheap from long ago.

1) Is there any reason why they cannot be used in Nelson's single woofer SLOB design? What would be the downside if any - compared to the Beta?

2) Is there any software program that can reasonably simulate the SLOB design? I'd like to try a number of different FR drivers I have on hand - a simulation would help find the best XOVER points.
