I'd advise anyone who paid him directly and didn't gift him to make that claim with PayPal.
For the UK guys who paid via me, I'm working towards a solution. I don't have much in the way of spare cash to throw at it as I'm out 800 euros of my own money as a result of this failed GB but I will do my best to get you all up and running.
The red choke board shown above has arrived. Ill test it this weekend, if they work to my satisfaction ill order plenty for everyone. The green pcb will be available from Les at Avondale Audio. All that needs adding is the diodes, slugging resistors, big caps and Hammond current chokes.
Seeing as its TRAFFO, COMMON CHOKE, CRCLC WITH SNUBBERS it might actually even be a tiny bit better than the original in terms of ripple. Which would be nice.
I shall keep you informed.
Really nice work Simon, Russel and David
And generous of you to put the time and effort in to sort this out.
I'm less out of pocket but equally sore at not getting to finish the wonderful Paradise phono pre.
I’m sure that everyone here will also be really glad that you and the PFM guys stepped in to rescue us.
keep us posted
Thanks again🙂

Seconded, absolutely ! 🙂
Very glad you're making the best of the current situation.
Great job,,,thank you !

I'll build these up and sort out the values for snubbers etc over the next week or so. I need to clear space in the back room and turn it back into a workshop, kinda hard when my daughter in on summer break and it's a playroom by day.
I shall keep you all updated as regards progress.

If you want to go cheap, you could design the pcb`s in 10cm x10cm or 5cm x 5cm format, and order from dirtypcbs or someting..and use jumpers between pcbs.
10cm x 10cm/2layer/black/1.6mm/Hasl/+-10pc/incl shipping for $25 is a good deal..

Ok this works. Slugging resistors need to be 20 ohms, not 30 for UK mains. I'll finish the build and scope out the snubbers values later this week once my 20 ohm resistors arrive. Once I get some cash in hand I'll put an order in for these boards.
That sounds great Simon.
Is it one of those for a pair of Paradise boards ? Or two ?
I'm interested in ps for 2 Paradise stages, mine & a friend's.
Thanks for doing this.

Torsten,
It's one red board and one green board per channel, (green boards from Les at Avondale audio). As soon as I've lived with them for a while I'll order them up, still waiting on parts.

As several guys have asked me if I know something about Peter's whereabouts:
I am sorry, last time I have heard from him was late February. He applied for this year's Frickelfest; we could not include him as all seats had already been taken.
Absolutely nothing since then.
I'll keep you posted if he shows up somewhere.

Would be nice if you keep us informed in case you hear anything from him. 🙂
Simon..thank you for the answer.
Are you considering to make up complete bundles of Avondale & your own pcbs
if we pre-pay for the lot ?
I'm curious for your opinion about the sound-check, but regardles the result I don't see much alternative for now.
Kind regards,,T

T i'm not sure what I'm going to offer at this point. I need to speak to Les as anything other than offering my boards is dependant on his goodwill. i'll do as much as I can.
Thank you Simon, that's nice.
Would shift a bit of posting logistics to you from him,
but you have to post individually anyway at some point as I see it.
Let's hope for some goodwill hunting at Avondale Towers,,
I'm happy with whatever you come up with anyway. 🙂

I completed a build with the new boards a coupe of nights ago, they sound very sweet, better than my single chassis PSU, and with an extra cap on each supply rail maybe even a little better filtered.
I'll look at pricing later this week.

I've spoken to Les and he'll offer his minicap6 diode / smoother boards for £7 each. I'm waiting on a price for the traffo/choke boards.
Ok, so here's the plan.
I'll run a new group buy which is just for the pcbs. You'll need a pair of transformer/choke boards and a pair of minicap6 boards for a complete dual mono psu.
The transformer is Talema 70065k . I've built with these and they are physically silent in use. The snubbing caps are 10n Wimas and the Chokes are Epcos/TDK 82mH
The Minicap 6 board takes a selection of diodes, I quite like Qspeed 10A 300V the legs take a little bending but they fit nicely enough. Importantly these are very low noise, they barely need snubbing at all, but I fit 10n styrene caps on the underside of the pcb, directly to the diode pads. The boards accept 6X 35mm snap in caps. 6800uF 50v are a great choice, and widely available from Panasonic, Nichicon and others. There's two sets of exposed pads on the board edge, I use the first set to slug down the voltage. Caddock 20ohm 20 watt are spot on for UK mains, giving 25.5v on the output when loaded. Then the last pair of holes are used for the big Hammond chokes. Jukebox revival is cheapest for small orders hammond 158t. I add 100n on the underside of the board to the pics of the last two caps and that's it.
I'm unable to help with parts, but I will handle the pcbs and any building assistance that anyone needs. I've built a psu with exactly these parts, it's silent physically and electrically and the DC rails are very smooth.
I expect the price for a set of four PCBs to be £24 +P&P and I'll order and pay for them all upfront. I'm ordering 25 sets so that everyone gets at least one set, I have no doubt the rest will get mopped up with latecomers. The original group buy spreadsheet has been modified with new columns, please indicate if you'd like a set, once everyone has replied I'll look at what happens with the left overs as I know some people have requirements for more than one set. I'll let this run for a week before ordering.
For UK buyers who paid through me for the failed GB I will cover the cost of your boards.

Is it possible to buy just the transformer boards as I already have cap6 boards in use in my build?
