This thread is simply not the place to make claims like this without physical, technically-correct explanations: "better than ... " and "better sounding than ..."Many of the MM preamps published here also have RIAA correction in the feedback, which is not sonically optimal.
Please explain these two points. Your claims are:
- multi-stage passive equalization is technically and sonically superior to all other forms
- Networks within the negative feedback loop are bad
This is very interesting and my old ego Haudegen knows and understands all these circuit variations, but in this discussion thread we should always find our way back to the topic after short excursions, the MM-RIAA-DIY equalizer called OREAD - for which @catd provides several layouts, with his last PCB design all OREAD variations are rebuildable.I'm working on one preamp for MM, topology is from 90's but even then it was able to outperform several times more expensive preamps even from world manufacturers. There were also listening tests and this one outperformed literally all the participants.
Dear HRDSTL
If you would like to find out whether OREAD might even be able to steal a march on your ACTIDAMP_MK3, you should not shy away from a direct comparison and build OREAD.
If you want to promote your very extensive circuit, I would be very grateful if you would open a separate discussion thread for it or switch to the container called Haudegen -
I am happy to discuss further with them there.
best regards,
HBt.
Für alle neuen Umsetzungen des Konzeptes ...
I have opened a new container for all construction projects and realizations of this equalizer with the name Oread: there we should all post our ideas, pictures and other things concerning this project in the future.

I found this while browsing the website of On Semiconductor (link)

Every few weeks someone comes around the corner and says that this or that transistor is obsolete.
Even if it is, so what?
This is not a commercial product that is to be built in thousands.
OREAD can also be built with similar small signal transistors without any problems, as has already been shown.
