Hi NEO Dan,

I used to use these little devils in groups of eight, in a cutout of sphere arrangement (see Bozak). Just put a small enough capacitor in series to cut out the lows (or do it right with a 3rd order or better cross-over). Somewhere in my mess, I should still have a bag of 50 or so.

Regards,

That's the DeafRay™ an experiment in HF ear torture.
You gots a hundred, you could build the DeafStar Array™ 😀

I use JBL WG's and BMS CD's over Faital mid-bass...

Is this(^5) the sign for I have 5 bikes? 😀

^5=high five,,,🙂
Nice horn What kind is it?

It's a 2384 ScreenArray horn from the JBL 4722, you can buy these ready to go including driver crossover and mounting brackets as 4722-HF and 4722N-HF, the N is the passive crossover network option. If you want to go active all the drive rack units and Crown amps with DSP have the crossover settings preprogramed IIRC. The thing about the 4722 is that the 2432H driver is actually pretty good for a 3" VC driver and the limitations they have.

I bought the bare WG/horns and fitted them with the BMS 4555 drivers, kind of a HiFi/Pro blend, better SQ but not quite the ultimate output capability. More than enough for most humans IMO 😀 There is also a Faital Pro CD that has the potential to be a good match...

You may have heard of EconoWave, well this is the MegaWave 😉

JBL 4722 is that the HF? I still don't get it.😕

A 4722 is the whole system including the box with the 15's, the 4722-HF is the WG with mounting hardware and CD, /N adds the passive crossover Network. I do my own crossovers, when I remember how to measure...

Speaking of measuring I was flogging the little 2-way when I was doing the crossover, I made a little video of a 100w IMD sweep. You can use it to annoy the crap out non-audio folks 😀 It's uploading as I type, give ~20minutes to finish. Go easy with the volume this is LOUD!

Love it! Nice find on the JBL waveguide.

EDIT: I think the waveguide can be found on this price sheet:

Thanks Pano,
That's the one. I couldn't remember the numbers I was going to go look at the boxes later.

Hi NEO Dan,

How would the sound quality of these new waveguides compare to the old Altec 511B horn?

Regards,

I grew up with semi modern Tratrix expansion 3-way Klipsch Forte's in the house and there is no comparison. Hands down WG's in a directivity matched phase coherent system with clean CSD and smooth FR are light-years ahead. I'm not saying I've achieved and perfected all of that, but that's the direction I'm headed in. I have also been through most of the B&W "interesting" stuff under the diamond level, and none of that seems worth it now. :2c:
