I suppose the noise was from the dirty ground on the rectifier side mixing with the clean ground at the psu output?
You are right. Not good to have unsmoothed rectifier outputs mixed with clean GND (after CLC) and to keep the wires from / to the rectifiers short. The stupid wiring caused nasty current flows also I guess.
@1543 Looking at your psu numbering, are you using 144 capacitors?
Instead of 8 big capacitors I have used many many many small (ø18mm) caps. This allowed me to put 2 big DC chokes, transformer and power supply in a only 300 mm deep chassis. But I must admit after assembling the M2 the supply looked a bit oversized, but it will not harm.😀

Sniff around for the M2Clone PCB sold by member "Tea-Bag" and read that thread. If I'm recalling correctly, several people built an M2 without mu-metal shielding, and loved the way the amp sounded. Several other people did make their own mu-metal shield, and they also loved the way the amp sounded. Search this thread, and that thread, for photos. I'll bet you find more than one picture of a homemade mu-metal shield on an M2 amplifier board.
I built a M2 used Teabag's boards, the Edcor trannies, the standard diyaudio store chassis, and the standard power supply using the store boards. I followed instructions and did NOT have to shield the transformers. I love this amp and it's been my main amp in my setup for over a year now. Quiet as a mouse on my >100dB horns. I have parts to build a second M2.
In fact, while on this topic, I will say that I preferred this amp to an F6 I also built and a Pass built J2.

Yes, the transformer is a Toroidy TTSAS0400 400VA 2x18V. They are of very good quality, highly recommended.
The mounting of rectifiers to faceplate helps a lot when space on baseplate is limited. Also access is much easier when mounting the recifiers on the faceplate.
I have shielded the edcors with Teko 3710.16 enclosures. It is easy to make them fit to teabags M2 clone boards with solder tails which can be screwed to the board.

Yes I really like their transformers. I used a 2x20, 300VA in a recent build but didn’t realize I’d have to mount it vertically to fit the chassis. I had a friend weld L brackets to the mounting plate so was curious how much extra space the 400VA would take for future builds.

Just finished my second M2 build. This time with higher class current using two pairs of output mosfets. Up power transformer to 1KVA and power supply capacitance to 176,000uF / channel. Overall saw an improvement in low end and immersive sound stage.

Who is the manufacturer of the yellow colored 600:20K transformers, in photo 4 of post #2697? Does their sonic character duplicate that of the Edcor 600:15K transformers in the original M2?
