Jean Paul if you are thinking of running a group buy I would love to buy a pair of boards as it is always a pleasure building one of Papa's designs.
I have seen that Edcor charges USD 50+ for shipping 2 transformers (total USD 12) to Europe (UK to be precise). Would it make sense to order more from them and redistribute locally?
didn't I already wrote about that ?
Another hidden feature, the very slow charge rate of the bias circuit allows
listening to Class B, then Class AB, then Class A.
Also makes people feel like tubes are warming up inside.
😎
Another hidden feature, ......
😎
as I'm having 4700uF there , there is also class C , prior to them all

I'd like a pair of boards too. I'd even be willing to do the group buy for North America 20 boards or so.

Haaha, F6 is having that feature also...🙂
... And a GB for some fine french red wine for Mr. Pass?
An excellent idea.

I'd be in for a pair of boards. I'm still mesmerized by the simplicity of this design, that and the no FB aspect. My tube-guy buddy and I agree that no FB = better realism / liveliness. I'm still listening to ZV8 w/o FB, acoustic jazz is sweet through it.
Thanks, Mr. Pass for being so generous with your knowledge, I've learned so very much from you over the years.

It gets to the right Class A current promptly enough. The performance of the
parts themselves are not solely a function of bias, and you do not reach the
final spot until the heat sinks have warmed up.
You can use a hair dryer to speed up the process if you like.

Would there be an advantage to replacing R3 and R4 with a 200 ohm P2 as in the most recent versions of the F5 to adjust offest to minimal distortion?

It would allow you to play with it. That's a real advantage.

re: the amp warm up time
that's why I use an undersized heatsink and a fan that comes up only after the temp has been reached (it makes for a quicker warm up than with an oversized passive heatsink). amazing how this has not caught up with others (they still remember the old noisy fans I guess).
