O2 amp Australian parts GB

As a way to progress. I would suggest that BF needs to get on with the parts orders and get those sorted ASAP - with a positive indication within the next week. The PS can be sorted in parallel.

If this can't be achieved, I would like my money returned to me.

If I don't hear and see anything in the next week to indicate that things are actually moving forward I will have no choice but to pursue matters outside of this forum.

Enough is enough. BF, you need to fix this.

Agreed. If its too hard to get a power supply in bulk then leave it up to the individuals, the documentation on the amp plus this forum give plenty of options. We shouldn't be holding up just trying to find one item.

As others have said, lack of information coming from BF isn't giving a great deal of confidence at this point.

I agree with the lack of communication it's looking dodgy.
Has anyone tried to text or call BF on the mobile number in the spreadsheet?
I will be out of phone coverage most of the day because of work but will try tomorrow afternoon and post how it goes.
I'm sure between the rest of us we could get the ball rolling if we could get the $$
Thoughts?

I have sent a few texts over the last few weeks. Responses are generally prompt though lacking detail that gives me confidence that things are moving forward quickly.

The details that have me hopeful this will eventually work out is that:

1. olli has told me (in a PM) that the number of boards that has been paid for and shipped to BF as part of this gb lines up with the numbers in the spreadsheet.
2. I provided a quote to BF from element14 for the enclosures and he has indicated that these are now ordered (the quote was valid until 31 Oct)

So while I'm not comfortable with the slow pace things are moving at I think (hope) that some day we'll all have some nice amplifiers driving our headphones.

Simple fact is BF has had over $4000 for around 40 days now so I don't think its out of line for us to wonder what's going on and express concern.

jeez this isn't looking good, kinda glad i opted out and decided i would either sell my boards or just build it later down the track as i have most of the parts in my parts bin already and have too many projects and work to do of my own to be building amps for friends as presents out of the blue at this point.

mouser has free express shipping on orders over 200, that wouldn't be hard to fill with a group. i almost never buy anything from element14 or RS, both have what i consider to be outrageous pricing (often 2 or 3 times the price elsewhere, sometimes even up to 1000% on small parts) and it doesn't take all that much of an order at mouser or digikey to pay for the shipping with the money saved even if you don't go over 200. i only ever use them if i'm in a real bind and need a couple of parts in a hurry, as even at the stupid prices they charge, the free overnight shipping with no minimum order works well. only takes a 50-100 dollar order to make it more worthwhile to go elsewhere.

at least i would only lose pcbs, i feel for you guys.

@ wintermute: regarding PCX shipping. thats really strange that you find that they ship before you even know what your shipping charge is? just email the order in, fill the cart, make a pdf of it and email it to them, or just put a note in the order to give you the shipping options to choose from before they charge your card.

they can be a bit useless there sometimes with making mistakes, or shipping your order with a single part missing while they order it in and so you have to pay international shipping for a single part!! i use them a fair bit still due to the sales and the fact they do have a pretty wide range in one place, so i have them a bit better trained now after some stern emails

I'm pretty sure I asked them to let me know the shipping cost the first time I ordered from them, and they told me sorry you have to select the shipping method, and you will find out when we invoice you. I wanted to weigh up which method to use based on cost and delivery time but they wouldn't tell me. I'll have to try next time and I'll point out I was charged an extra $18 for shipping for 20g over (my order came in at 520g)

for element14 and RSaustralia I have found since the aussie dollar has risen their prices are much better, than they were before. For the size orders I usually put in, (under $100) it is usually better than getting from say mouser or digikey. I've found most US companies terrible for shipping costs. From memory usually a minimum of $50 US! So you have to be saving more than $50 to make it worthwhile to order from them. The main issue of course is the more limited range available from RS and Element14.

The rediculous thing is that I bought some heavy books from the US a few years ago, that were shipped UPS, took two days to aririve and I was only charged $15 for freight. Yet I order a couple of hundred grams of parts from an electronics store, and get whacked with $50 for shipping, it doesn't make sense! Maybe things have changed since I last looked.

Tony.

OK - update here as promised.
Thanks to some lovely people here and at e14 I was able to secure a good price on the enclosures. I ordered 50, so I have 3 spare (I'll summarize my spares later on).
I've done some picking through and parts substitution with Mouser and have ordered both the parts kits (55) and the resistor kits (25) which leaves me with some spare.
I'm currently in the process of paying for the batteries from all-battery - unfortunately due to the order multiples that they come in I had to order quite a few more than we need as previously discussed. Due to their being comparatively heavy shipping is also not cheap and I suspect these may be the last item to arrive here. I have 8 spares left.

The only item remaining to order are the wallwarts. The option that I've been assessing recently would be to order supplies from RS with a Euro (Europlug/Schuko) or UK (BS 1363) connector, and buy cheap adaptors from eBay or similar. This would allow us to use a pack with appropriate specifications and voltage at an acceptable price.

To reiterate, these are the spares that I have available and need to sell ASAP:
1 parts kits
1 resistor kits
3 enclosures
8 batteries
3 PCBs
The sooner I can get these shifted the better as I can't afford to be out of pocket for these items.

I expect the Mouser items and enclosures to be here early next week. This means I can send the front panels off to be machined and they should return before the batteries and wallwarts arrive. (The PCBs are already here)

When I have tracking information available - I will publish it here, as mentioned this should allay any concerns.

On another topic, I still do not have everybody's address - these people haven't told me where to send their stuff!

If you are on this list please text, PM or email me your address - I can't ship without it 🙂

BlueFusion, are you still taking orders?
Sure - see above for what I have available.

I would suggest that BF needs to get on with the parts orders and get those sorted ASAP - with a positive indication within the next week. The PS can be sorted in parallel.
Suggestion appreciated - you read my mind. 🙂

Update: I looked through the info I received from olli with the boards - it seems that many of you who I didn't have addresses for were among those who ordered boards from him - so I have a lot more addresses now.
I still need addresses from these people:

coolguy
beejones
MILSPEC

And an update on the power supply situation: I've pretty much decided that i'm going with the previously discussed plan (suitable supply with an adaptor to fit Australian plug shape). The datasheet for this supply also confirms we'll get enough voltage to make the amp go. 🙂

If there is anyone still looking to join the O2 amp Group Buy look no further cause I'd like to put my two kits up for grabs.
I have paid $120 via direct bank transfer to Bluefusion for 2x O2 amp kits with low noise resistors and 2 batteries (this can be confirmed in the spreadsheet), I have also not paid for shipping yet.

The reason I'm making my kit available is because I won't have time and patience to dedicate to this nice little projects as I am too tied up looking after my daughter and other family commitments as well.

So if you are interested please send me a PM and I'll have a chat to Bluefusion to get my money back before you can proceed with payment, to make matters easy I suppose whoever is interested would have to take the order over from me as it is (which includes the two kits and other bits and pieces as listed above)

Best regards

PM'd my address!

Indeed we should, and the sooner the better. I have gotten several addresses and I'm now only missing coolguy, beejones and musical. Thanks everyone!

Willmax - sucks that you can't participate. Once I've ordered the wallwarts I'll see if I have sufficient funds spare to refund your order before a buyer is found - I'm sure there will be one at some point as there seems to be a great deal of interest in this amp.

Hi willman and bluefusion, I am looking to get one complete set of the amp (parts, PCB, 2 batteries, wallwart, enclosure, front panel and low noise resistors). It seems like bluefusion is able to refund you which is very cool. I reckon I will just pay him and he can refund you?

As a personal preference I would rather not have to use an adapter plug on a wall-wart. I hate adapters, and they won't let me use it at work with an adapter.

If this is the path you travel, count one out for me and I'll jut buy one from Jaycar.

I'm happy to not worry about the cost of the wallwart and leave the money in the kitty.
