Just noticed that I got 2 U2's(2903D) and no U1(2068D) IC...Doh!
I personally haven't any spares or they would be yours. The best advice I've seen on resolving an issue like this is discussed in this thread starting about this post: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/group-buys/195660-o2-amp-australian-parts-gb-74.html#post2852892
Hopefully if anyone received an extra in their kit they will notice and speak up and you too can have a living o2!
@dontdiewondering: Thanks a lot for your help...
I hope it will not happen to me.
Because the reason I follow this GB is having trouble finding the component in my country. Especially the IC... 🙁

The second to last order went in the post this morning - just Manzanita Cross's order to go. Hopefully the kids will play the game tonight and go to bed early so I can at least check the components of my two kits and hopefully make a start.
The front panels on the JDS ones look good. Anyone else have theirs complete?
Has anyone been refunded yet? BF told me that he had started but I am yet to get a reply from my text message yesterday to pick up the last two remaining kits.

Thanks to AussieAmpBloke I'm about to have 3 kits. Awesome!
Except... I forgot about the DIP 8 sockets.
So, I checked my local Jaycar stockist. No luck.
Figured I wouldn't make the minimum figure for free post on Element14 (~$75?).
...and decided to try this "RS" that someone mentioned here.
I ordered early wednesday morning.
It's now saturday and they've not charged my card or changed my order status to indicate that anything at all had happened...
Does anyone here have experience with ordering from RS? I noticed during the checkout that they seem to be fairly business oriented. I hope they aren't ignoring my order due to it being so small.
EDIT: I'm placing an order with Element14 now. Will be interesting to see which arrives first.

yeah they are very slow sometimes..
element 14 has a minimum 10 dollars order and I think they are offering free shipping for online purchases.

You need to check the estimated shipping time with both RS and element14, some RS stock is same day dispatch, some is 3-5 days and some is longer. They don't bill your credit card until they ship it. They will call if it is an unusually long lead time.
Apart from some relays that I ordered (along with a bunch of other stuff) that never turned up (but I wasn't billed for either) I've not had any problems with RS. Some stuff I've recieved the day after ordering. I think the longest I've waited was one day longer than their estimated delivery time for the item.
Tony.

yep wintermute is right, best log into an account so they know where you are and will show local stock status. indeed both offer free shipping on any sane order size, farnell even with international stock offer free overnight on any order made before 5pm courier and any international stock will be back ordered but usually gets there within trhe week from anywhere; they will sometimes send you an express courier package for a single smd resistor, then another when stock from a different part of their network come in for the same order. the most i have had is 4 separate overnight couriers for a single reasonably small order!! this doesnt actually impress me that much given the massive amount of wastage for packing materials and fossil fuels. they will not hold any parts over till the whole order arrives, ive tried to arrange this.
the thing is though, just compare prices with mouser or digikey and you will see why they have the money to throw around like that.
RS are very business oriented, in fact I thought they require a business name for an account? but they ship pretty fast too. again very pricey, but both places are pretty handy if you only have a small order that you need in a hurry.
with farnell, i recommend always searching for the part number once you know what it is, i have sometimes found duplicate parts in the system with one that costs nearly 3x as much as the other. identical parts, same grade everything. i have reported this every time its happened but they never do anything about it.

It looks like the estimated dispatch for RS was/is up to 6 days for the sockets. I had not noticed this before.
Element14 has theirs listed as same day dispatch. So I've ordered some from there as well to satisfy my curiosity and play with their website. Also, unfair shipping race!
@tamu; You are correct. Minimum of $10 for a credit or debit payment and free post for online orders. I had misinterpreted what I read here and thought it was only free post if spending $75 or over.
EDIT:
@qusp; I was typing when you posted that... Thank you for the information.
RS did ask for a business name when checking out / signing up. I just put in "n/a".

For those who are short the 2068 it looks to me like you can use the NE5532 as a replacement, in the original thread (post 188) RocketScientist stated
I can safely assure everyone there's no improvement beyond upgrading from the NJM2068 to the NE5532 and even that's barely measurable.
which looks to me like the NE5532 is a barely measureable improvement but would work, the NE 5532 is very easy to get anywhere

I sent them an email about this too!!! I suggested that they should consider batching the orders, by default with the option that a customer could request multiple deliveries for a nominal fee (say $10). I would actually prefer to get my whole order at once rather than multiple delieveries. The last order from element14 I think I got 5 separate deliveries, and the total order value was a little under $100. I actually suspect they would have struggled to break even on it.
I've been buying from both for years, I think you only need a business to get an account (ie 30 days settlement). Both have improved their pricing since the aussie dollar has gotten stronger, once you factor in shipping, for small orders I think they are cheaper than going to mouser or digikey.
Tony.
I got the faceplates from BlueFusion, and they're quite serviceable! I had the switch button sticking problem (probably my fault, one of my audio jacks was very slightly raised when soldered) - but fixed it by boring the holes a bit larger on the back. Mostly.
I think I might leave the amp as is, it's working and the looks aren't too important to me at this point. Hopefully there'll be an ODA group buy in future that goes more smoothly than this did.
All that's left is for BF to settle the outstanding debt, with ddw in particular! Hopefully we'll hear something from him soon so we can put this to bed.

It is great news that people can finally finish their builds.
This is the single worst experience I have had with GBs in this hobby. Most f*ck-ups in my experience are the compounded result of a number of smaller screw-ups, but BF can single-handedly take the blame for this cluster f*ck of a GB.
There is no doubt that the ODA GB will be fine - as long as nobody lets BF anywhere near it.
In fact, I think this hobby should ban BF for good. If only there was a way.

you know what, i always thought that cluster f*ck was a really great phrase for describing something that has been totally fubared, but it just doesnt seem to cover it here and i cant think of an alternative.
cant say i've been having much joy with Jokener either tbh. ordered a B3 case over a month ago now, with no indication it would take anywhere near this long, just a couple of failed deadlines (if one could call them that theyve been that vague), then he went missing in action for 10 days without telling anyone or replying in the thread and nothing delivered in the meantime. then came back and mentioned some sort of undisclosed family drama and said for people to contact him by email, which i did nearly 48hrs ago now with no response. this isnt a kit, but a single item...
so what is it about these new members that have joined for the O2 project but have no experience running or participating in GB's starting them not to help people, but i can only gather thinking there was a little money on the side to be made and then screwing up? sure reports said the first round of kits went well, but i gather there are a number of people still waiting for parts from that and now the whole second round waiting on some backordered parts.
I think there needs to be some new guidelines put in place

I got a text back from BF saying he has started refunding people and should have it all finished off this week. I only need one more address and I can get the postage side of things all finalised and it looks like I may have two PCBs and and enclosure remaining - I'm going to wait and see what components BF has remaining to see if it will make a complete kit, still waiting to hear back a time to get what he has left.
@qusp - buyer beware is all I can say about this GB, I know it isn't any consolation. Hopefully the next one goes better. I'm not saying I'm going to volunteer for the next one but I can say what has worked and what hasn't should someone want to run with it.

I'm about halfway through assembling (I have 6 week old twins... not much time) mine and so far so good, the only oddity I've noticed is the different style of package between the MOSFET's... if it hurts performance or not I do not know.
I got the faceplates from BlueFusion, and they're quite serviceable!
Mine arrived warped... it's not too bad, I may be able to carefully straighten it in a vice.
great work ddw!
I'll put bank trasfer through tomorrow morning for the amount that I owe you.
@qusp there certainly has been an unusual amount of incidents with the O2 GBs. Very strange!
