I’m not a believer. My bet is that none of the builders could tell you why things broke but they had worked out rules empirically that allowed them to build some wonderful things. Just because we can use our modern knowledge to explain why it is still standing does not mean that that they understood what they were doing the same way we do.

In the case with Lego Notre Dam, they fold down the flying buttresses, slide the thing into the enclosure, then pull them up again?That’s what I’ve seen in instructions
