NOS 24 Bit DAC

Can anyone guid me to an explanation on how to make a NOS 24Bit DAC. intead of the known 16Bit types.

To make a 24-bit NOS DAC, all you need are two PCM1704s, one inverter, and a DIR that supports 24-bit, right-justified operation.

But why would you wanna do that?? You will not use 8 bits of the 24.

QserraTico_Tico, I belive newer converters are better than the older ones, at least som of them!
Also If you can use the 16 upper bits in a 24 bit converter, then you have liftet the signal up above the worst noise and unlinarity in the converter. In other words cleaner signal.
Maybe somone can confirm my filosofi?

Maybe, all my 20 bit converters PCM63 and PCM1702 were clearly beaten by selected and well adjusted PCM56.

But I would be interested in trying PCM1704 too.

The OP asked for a diagram; the choice of DIR is up to him. As I said, any DIR with 24-bit, right-justified output will work.

I one would like to have more than one input, what type og switch would you prefere, passive, relay, active?

I would omit the DIR.
The PLL recovery of clock is not 100%.

They are all the same to me because I only require the DIR to decode the biphase data stream. I get clocks from a local oscillator. Where I want to use the S/PDIF derived clock I prefer the CS8415A: It sign-extends that sample data, needs only one power supply, and doesn’t do de-emphasis with an FIR filter.

Whatsup, in you drawing you have drawen two channels? How is that gonna happen, that way, how is left right seperated?

Hello RTD. On the drawing the OLRCK output was inverted. The Dir used is CS8415.

Does anybody know how to use a BB1792 or BB1796 as NOS. I would like to find a 24 bit converter that are cheaper then the BB1704.
