Hi all,
DAC is been working without any problem for a time but know, no sound no more... Just hum & crackle increasing and decreasing with volume...
I mesure many voltage, all are correct except J7 which gives +9V ( 12 V normal), i change U6 (7812) but same result. First question, if i have -12v at J10, why 9V on J7 ( 7812 broken ? some caps broken ?...) ?
I change opamp (ad826, op2607 ...), switch chanel, user different output caps ( because i had it), run in all mode ( nos, with clock and with clock and SA ...), mesure offset (around 30 mv), change S2 dip switch (because it has been slightly broken during posting)
no sound at all, the red light (which indicate that DAC has locked signal) doesn't light ... So can the TDA1541A be broken ?
Is anyone has further tip to detect the fault ?
(the only problem i can mesure is that 9V on the opamp)
thanks,

Hi thomas,
Glad to see you back. I'll send you an Email while free to discuss about my DAC (considering that i have to add 6 hour from french hour to have hong kong one )🙂

Hi Thomas,
Don't know if you received my previous mail, i reported that U3 is about 8.5V (instead of 5V) and the CS8414 is really getting hot. I replace the 7805 but no changes. Can the CS8414 be broken ?
N.B : if you preffer I can call U, just let me your phone and hour by private Email
thx

hi rtd,
sure, the voltage was not normal. can U told me voltage test on different leg of 8414. Not need for long distance call. will expensive for U. I will help U to solve this problem.
thx

Hi thomas,
Thanks for reply and support, here the mesure i just made. Hope it will be relevant. (i can call HK, it's free for me 🙂 )
Test in NOS Mode
S2 : 1 on, 2 off , 3,on, 4on
JP4 Short JP5 all short
No signal in (no drive connected)
Mesure of CS8414
For pin 1 to 14, I mesure DC (-) to pin 8 (DGND)
pin 1= 0v
pin 2 to Pin 6 = 4.95v
pin 7 (VD+) = 4.95v
pin 9 = 1.61v
10 = 1.61v
pin 11 to 12 = 4.95v
pin 13 to 14 = 0v
For pin 15 I mesure DC (-) to pin 21 (AGND)
15 to 16 = 4.95v
17 to 18 = 0v
19 = 7.12v
20 = 0.02
22 = 8.65v
23 = 0v
24 to 25 = 4.95v
26 = 0v
27 to 28 = 4.95v

Hi Thomas,
Could you please let us know when your going to ship the v3 Ultimate DAC? Since I have already sent you payment for the non-profit version but decided to change and wait for the v3 Ultimate DAC, we will need to figure the cost difference. Thanks.

Hi there,
I understood from ecdesign that tube-lover is able to supply the TDA1541a andn 'double crown' I am planning to build the D-I-DAC with 8x TDA1541a
Can someone please advise how I can reach him since I am a new member and do not have yet enough privileges to send him an email directly.
Thanks for the Help.
Frederik.

Search this thread or the other thread on double crown chip thomas started, but last time I heard he was sold out of the S2 chip. He has posted his email address multiple times. May be I should email him directly as I can't get a hold of him through this board.
hi rtd,Mike & all,
sorry my bone had problems after operation, Back to re- treatment for one week. Today evening was back.
rtd,
since if the chip was hot may be the LM chips was dead. do U check already. too high voltage will cause chips damage. pls check the regulator IC first & exchange will be Ok, If not change the 8414( is it hot ???) another chips & Op-amp temp???
is it really hot??
Mike, let me post a final new one to u, I hope U can test & compare to John's Dac,when will John's dac arrive yor hand??
hi frippen,
how may I help U???
thx

Welcome back. Good to hear you're OK.
You do remember that I am not interested in the non-profit v.3 DAC? I have been waiting for your single chip (that can be paralleled with another chip as an option) ultimate v3 DAC. Is that finished and ready to ship? We just need to figure out the price difference between the non-profit DAC and your ultimate DAC. John has not yet finished his Octal DAC, but he is close. Thanks.

hi rtd,
pls test for this.
P11 P12 =2.6xV
If P19=7.12V & P22=8.65V, Pls check the power supply area or voltage after the regulator chips. This voltage is not normal. Will dmage 8414.
Hi mike,
I was waiting for the pre-amp OPT, after test I will let U know. It will approx the best, not need extra money, help me to test will e Ok?? if the posage overtoo much. I will let U know.

Hi Thomas and all,
I replace J6 and J4, they all now produce 5v.
On the CS8414 without no signal, VD+ is 5v, VA+ is 5v too (P22).
P19 is 4.5v and P11 an P12 are 0V.
TDA1541 and Opamp is getting normally hot
CS8414 remains cold
(test made with Jp4 short, jp5 short, SA + Reclock off, M0=M2=M3=5v on CS8414 and M1 = 0V, that must be nos mode.
i precise because i replace S2)
So maybe CS8414 is broken but how can i be sure ? I don't want buy another one if not.
Thanks,

How,s everyone doing with there Dac,s ? 🙂
I am superduper happy with mine..
It would be fun to hear about what kind of OpAmp,s you guys have tried on the output.
The Philips that came with the dac was pretty good. But AD797 is superior no doubt.!
So far i have tried.
AD797 = Very good
OPA134= Good ( a bit boring sounding)
AD843= Got crackling sound..
mebbe did something wrong..
So.. What success did you guys have with trying different OpAmps?

hi,
this is the high voltage & high current 5687 cathode follower for ver.3 & coming full balance 1541a dac.
test was more dynamic than standard 6922 low voltage one.
If Diyer did not like to use capacitor output, can use pre-amp transformer output.
thx
