New DISPRE preamp, successor to previous popular version

you can find digital players with no opamps used.

You would have to search through the innards of several 200 lead IC's to actually make that claim. You guys would be horrified at some of the circuits that poor audio signal goes through. CMOS opamps biased at tens of micro-amps.

I like your circuits, I still do discrete for my phono stuff to. I don't worry about the distortion that much though. The typical cartridge produces all the harmonics you could want, odds and way out there too. No one ever wants to discuss this. Noise is my first enemy.

I find this talk about PMA making a big commercial win on his DisPreII PCBs here complety ridiculous !!

For those here who actually design their own circuits and have their own PCBs made knows the costs for such operation!
And they would also know that experimenting and designing new circuits always end up with that you have to purchase some new components, and that a certain amount of components ends in the trachcan.

I bought the DisPre II PCB with BOM and Postage from PMA for €30.00. If you think this is a big commercial win for PMA, it must be because you envy his succes with the DisPre Preamps.

Many active DIYers here (my self included) would like to have just some of our RD costs covered by offering the PCBs to other interested members. If you think €30.00 for the PCB to make a €500.00 high end class Preamp is to high, then just don't buy it!

PMA is kind to offer these PCBs to the forum members, so please appriciate that insteed of just :smash: on him!

Ok! Steam is out now 😀

PMA;
I have started the listening tests of the DisPre II, and must say that I'm very impressed sofare. I'll need to make some small changes in m setup before I continue the listening tests.
I will post results here.

Some here may realise I do not get along with PMA, but to give him credit, from what I see the Dispre is an outstanding design, WITH artwork, all beautifully done, and there is NO profit to be made at the prices charged. Prototyping probably consumes around 40% of my gross income in my business, so his charges are not even covering his costs.

Be aware of the commercial realities before you ask too much of these clever designers.

Most here are decent sorts, but there is a universal belief that the talented designers should divulge all their secrets. This is absurd; you do not find engine designers for Toyota or GM discussing their secrets, so why audio, which is also a highly valued technology based around discretionary income.

PMA, don't give up your day job......

Hey Pavel,
do not let other people's views bring your mood down!

Chin up🙂

As other people are buying your PCBs, and thus your design, people like your design so much that they will spend money and lots of time on it - now that is a good sign!

As long as the moderators do not move this thread to the Vendor's Bazar (which they recently did with Twisted Pear's Buffalo DAC), your "profits" are too small - ig any - to be noted.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks Hugh, greatly appreciated, indeed.

Seems I am having a better day today ... 😉

I am very happy

with the dispre and with the fact that it can be bought at very reasonable costs.
I am waiting on a stepped attenuator and listening now with a rotten 10 cents potmeter in it.
I have not done an serious listening test but I recognized the quality of the sound inmmediately. It is comparable to the quality level of my other preamp, a 5842 tube with Luhndahl outputtransformer and a good powersupply with 3 chokes.

For the economists: price/quality level is unbeatable

Guess what I found today in my mailbox😀 😀

Now I have to find time to assemble it:dead:

Great job Pavel, thank you:smash:

Has anyone who has listened to both the original and the no-feedback version heard a difference?

I have listened to both, and nothing jumps out at me as 'different' - probably not focusing on the right thing - and will probably regret asking once I hear it - but I'd like to know.
