New build: 36LW6 integrated amp with phono avec SMPS/DC Boost.

Kodamx, Watching your progress reminds me of when I start building an amplifier. Once started, I just can't leave it alone until its done. Also, you style of building looks as though I took a picture of one of mine with regards to the terminal strips and the point to point wiring. Mickeystan

Yes to all the above, but Koda, why? Why stuff everything in an integrated amplifier?

We know you have several pre-amps, phono-amps, etc. so why? Why not build a nice, high-powered xLW6 amplifier and be done with it?

I think you have an answer, but have not mentioned it yet.

It looked better without all those wires in the way..😀

I know, right? 🙂

I think it's my neatest work yet. 🙂

Well, I already trumped the *LW6 with dual monobloc 6P45S 🙂 I wanted to try for a neater design this time around. In this design, even though *LW6 can make over 200W, I use them for about 60W. Limited by the OPTs of course... These same tubes in the monobloc will only make about 10% less power than the 6P45S.

Power stage is switchable, too.

Phono stage is wired up now... On track to be finished this weekend I think.

Except for the two line outputs, it's ready for the smoke test...

Even though I have no reason to think it won't work, it's always nerve wracking to fire up a complex build for the first time.

So far the line stage works, the 6J1 stage works, and the phono stage works. The 6E2 probably works.

I had to change a dropping resistor from 1k5 to 620 ohms, and I forgot a grid leak on one of the phono tubes... Now to test the VA/PI before adding the 330V power stage and testing the biasing board.

I would have finished it 3 days ago, but Thursday a friend came by, Sunday my dad came over, and yesterday another friend dropped by. 🙂

That board with the tube on it is a bluetooth receiver 🙂

Ok well the VA/PI/VA stage works but now it's off to bowling...

I'll resume tomorrow with the testing of the output stage and bias board.

Also the 6E2 is just pegged and the controls don't do anything. I guess I have to look at that circuit again.

Well after some struggles, it's up and running! Yay!

The 6E2 was miswired, as was one of the output transformers... Also one of the boost converters was replaced with a linear supply because the 12V supply is 50$ garbage. LOL
