I have no time (nor funds) to start my projector right now...Hopefully my projector will be underway the second half of the summer....So right now i'm just trying to bounce ideas off the forum......
The thing with a fan is, i believe, that air flow is GREAT for taking heat off of surfaces....BUT airflow coupled with temperature control would probably increase the effectiveness of a fan tremendously...For instance, if you could have your Fan blow over some sort of cooling unit before it hits the LCD that would probably be a super technique....
Or better yet stick your setup in a mini-fridge and you'd probably need only a small fan on the LCD to super cool it. Not to mention that a closed fridge would probably block out all noise (except for the fridge pump).
And i'm serious, these fridges can be bought EVERYWHERE for CHEAP...just go down to your local University or College and look at a for sale board...Probably packed full of mini-fridges for sale..espescially at this time of year.

how will you fit an OHP in a fridge, pluswhere would the air go to if there is no holei bet u my OHP would heat up any normal fridge, maybe we can build one of those giant freezers found in supermrkets, ya know...the one with dead cows and stuff.. we could probably make extra cash holding meat for the neihborhood while cooling your LCd..
Here look at these...Some of them you could fit the whole DIY projector in....Some of them are smaller: Could possible cut out 2 sides and replace the sides with 2 glass panes...then mount the LCD inside....The OSTER's are selling for a penny on ebay!
Small fridges just for LCD:
OSTER
OSter for a Penny
Ugly fridge
Bigger Mini-Fridges for the whole damned DIY projector (and some more nice tiny ones just for LCD):
Check out the "Really nice" one...I think you could stick your hole OHP in there! And A couple bottle of wine too!

Really all this is, is a similar idea as using a peltier.
Check out the First Oster Link:
"Cooling Capacity: 20°C / 36°F below ambient temperature "

Yeah and #8 is pertty neat looking too...I think that's the blue one...anyway there is a nice little blue one that looks REALLY sharp....
But what i'm saying with the small tiny ones is that they could be used ONLY for the LCD panel itself: Cut out too opposite sides of the fridge replace those sides with glass, stick the LCD inside the fridge and shine the light through the glass side, through the LCD, through the Other glass side and then to the projection lens....
But yeah...that might be too complicated....Sticking the WHOLE damned projector in one of the Bigger Mini-Fridges and just shutting the door on it would be *cool* (and dark)

as ugly as this may be, this could be a very nice box! imaging ALAN'S setup from DIYLABS... put an MH system at the bottom and cut a square on the upper portion of the fridge NOT THE COVER just the freeezer-like portion and put a fresnel on it. and condensor would fit perfectly as well, and then you make a small size puncture(the size of a lens or OHP arm for lens) and maybe you can put it horizontally. and HQI would be perfect for it thanx to the size.
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

"Select "Cold" and the interior rapidly drops to 42°F and stays there!"
link #8 is too small and too pricey
about the pic above you can also make is look cool by painting it blue/black the penguin is kinda kool lookin too
Yeah....This one sure is nice looking...But only big enough for a small LCD so you'd have to rip up the sides and replace them with glass

I think link #8 could fit a 15" lcd: "Measures 17" high x 11" wide x 12 1/2" deep"
But again you'd have to rip up 2 sides and replace them with glass, then shine the light through it...ALthough that "Select "Cold" and the interior rapidly drops to 42°F and stays there!" sure sounds nice!:
I guess the easiest thing to do would be stick the whole Projector in one of these and cut a small hole for the lens (and of course rip out all the shelves):

that black one would need a serious retrofit, remove inner lights and egg holders and other food stuff.the less it looks liek a fridge the better you will feel while watching a movie.
Actually i think the Penguin one is just a TOy..not a real fridge.
I like the Koala ONe ( you'd probably have to paint the glass door though):

Hilarious! LOL
But for 1 cent for the OSTER how could you go wrong (If there was a way to cut out the sides and mount only the LCD inside....I'm 99% certain you could fit a 15" LCD in there):

Yeah..the black one is acceptable looking.
Of course a small slow fan would probably be good also in one of the big mini fridges just to keep air circulating...Although i think mixing the hot and cold might create a good enough air flow....
The MAIN necessity is for a fridge with a nice temperature control though...Some of the big mini fridges i linked mention good temperature controls on them...

it doesnt look like it woul be kool enough...yeah the pengy does look like a toy...but it would still be a great design.
yeah the kaola would need painting, but i doubt paint will be enought to block the light, it would be a good setup bcuz its long enough to put a mirror and lens there without cuttin the top, you would only paint the lower half and leave a circle sized section unpainte you could just glue/tape the lens on the glass. that would look pretty kool!

Or you could use a circular glass cutter and cut a circle out of the glass to avoid reflections off the glass...Then seal the edges to stop cold air escaping.
Ok....I think that's enough for one day on fridges eh? LOL....That Koala is too Big! I can't imagine putting that thing in my living room!...Maybe if I put some wheels on the bottom to roll it into a closet or something.
But seriously...Next time you're near your local university have a look...Students are selling their used dorm fridges a dime a dozen there.
its not half as big as this one though... http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=13489
