I'm not saying that Chinese are dishonest but i think we should always buy electronic components from authorised dealer like mouser or digikey(or local stores) & not from alixpress.
I had good succes with DSP chips ADAU1701, and the ADAU1452, the ALiex unit price was the mouser/digikey 1k price, let alone shipping costs.

Sand or could it be Beryllium Oxide? which is extremely hazardous. Beryllium oxide is used in certain semiconductors for its heat transfer properties.

Does look like a real die. But if that’s BeO, don’t breathe the dust! It very well could be - they used all sorts of nasties back then.

BeO should not have been a powder. RF transistors had a BeO ceramic. Silica is possible to control how a fond wire fuses

the sand is what they call "getters", to collect residual moisture after closing the can. this saves the extra step of vacuum drying the devices before can closure.
See if a normal transistor tester reads it as a PNP BJT. Otherwise it might be a remarked fake - and a JFet for real!
That may be Rick, but as you are well aware, they are extremely good at faking markings. Since the source is unknown to me, I have to assume the worst, and if his tester is any good, testing the part as a JFet really doesn't surprise me.
I buy only from authorized vendors or known good suppliers. Even then I confirm the part through electrical testing since the cost of a fake is much higher than the cost of the part - never mind additional troubleshooting time. So if there is any doubt at all, confirm the assumption the part is in fact as marked.

The transistors in the picture are just fine, but I already knew that since I bought them from Arrow.com.
NOT all things on eBay are fake, I sold a lot of my components there, when you buy off eBay just look for the private sellers not big companies like utsource or others.

No, not all parts on Eek-Pay are fakes or bad. But a significant number are in fact not what they are sold as. There are in fact many private sellers who buy from Aliexpress ... so there you go. You cannot count on any blanket "safe" type of seller. The only one safe type these days are authorized resellers. Period. I will buy from some older members here if they bought through authorized channels. Otherwise forget it! I won't take a chance with my reputation or my word. Not for a few dollars!

is there a way of testing "validity" of transistors (small signal ones like BC546 and mosfets and etc)?
Is there a basic test circuit I can use and then measure some volts and/or current and compare against the datasheet? (what datasheet information should I be looking for?)
