That teak looks beautiful.
I didn't know Teak grew in the frozen north.
Good news on the headshells.
Looking forward to setting up in my system.

It's true that Teak doesn't grow in the Frozen North. They import it from tropical areas to the South, like Seattle!
😀

laiphroaig glad you like Italy , nice places the cinque terre and alps 🙂

Hi Nanook, I noticed back a page or two that you mentioned that you might have one 219 still available - if so I would love to get in on the testing . . . .Best Regards
teak in Seattle, and other things...
well folks last 3 or 4 days have been snowing...currently 0°F, I've gotta get shovellin'
Teak was brought in by a local building supply store for a customer that balked at the price once in-store. Boards have some bends, but I'll try to use a block plane to straighten them out...
As far as the "kits go, I'll make what I have, and send them out. Once I get those who originally wanted the kits as testers, whatever I may have left over I might ship out. I should retain a kit and build the arm so that I can do a few photos "in process" or maybe a small video...I have no illustrative documentation.
The basic recipe for the arm and a couple of photos can be seen at Affordable$$Audio :: The E-zine For Frugal Audio Enthusiasts , the Nov. issue. (once it gets posted up there).
I'm planning on presenting a diy turntable for December...

The long white beaches and palm trees a quite magical.😀

I expected to wake up to 5-10cm's, but it didn't materialize.

Seeing the palms in Langford trimmed in snow was a delight.

Perhaps i got your 5 cm on top of my 8 cm... plus a token power outage (i'm now setup to get power back to the critical stuff in <5 min 🙂)

Sweet.

Is anybody near to running their new tonearm yet? Am just lurking and interested to see how you folks like the unipivot design. Comparisons to you previous arm would be interesting and useful to others. Regards Moray James.
I have been playing around with arms and would be interested in a set of the parts. I want to make a 12" arm for my denon dp-72 that has been modded. I have a pioneer donor tt that I will use for the bearing. PM me Dave if there are any parts available. Thanks.
as fa as I know...
wjlamp is the only one to have the parts and the desire to get it up and running (and measure some stuff too), of the people that dave had sent parts out for. I have a set list of those that have spoken up for "kits". Bernie sent me the headshells, I have the bearings (less a pen nib for each).
Perhaps wjlamp could comment? Not sure if his is built yet.
moray: it seems the difficulty with the one we made last year was my preamp, not the wiring...
regarding any more "kits", I'm willing to make more, however there will be a charge for them + shipping. I'll start a post in "vendor's bizarre" if need be

Moray,
I've been pretty busy with my Grand-daughters so I haven't got much done. However when it's finished, I'll be mounting it on a Sota Star Sapphire vacuum TT and I'll certainly post my opinions. I'll A/B it with my Well Tempered "Amadeus" TT (The Golf Ball) used with a Grado "Silver" cartridge.
Best Regards,
TerryO
looking forward to hearing your thoughts Terry as I have listened to a number of Well Tempered arms. I realize it is a busy time of year. still looking forward to the owner reviews as the trickle in. Happy Thanks Giving every one. Best regards Moray James.

Moray,
I'd like to wish you and all that are following this thread, a very happy Holiday Season and an even better New Year!
I felt I should post this before the power goes out, as it tends to stay out for sometimes a week or more at a time. OTOH, I've got plenty of lanterns and a full wood shed.
😀
Best Regards,
Terry
Nanook,
Or at least the female bearing, not sure how you form the epoxy to limit it to 15 degrees and mount in dowel? I think I can figure the rest of it out.

All, no vendors bizarre thread yet
I will open up a thread, but I would really like some feedback from those that get them and build them before I go full out and try to start selling kits.
I had received a request from India, and I'll find a way to get a kit to him, as there is a real drought of analog in some places in India. I'm doing this more so to help a "suffering audiophile" than to make any money. I may even send him a turntable, something better than the lowest level Technics he has, or else try to inspire him to re-plinth the one he has.
If you download the November issue of Affordable$$Audio, I presented some notes taken from my failed Power Point presentation that I sent out to dave, as well as some "snips" from earlier on in this thread:Affordable$$Audio
Just made a place holder in vendors bizarre, located here

see previous post for a link to the nanook "219" placeholder
I created a thread in Vendors Bizarre, once actual costs are calculated, I'll post pictures, and purchase type information there
A couple of questions, though:
The above will allow me to complete the design as much as possible, while still leaving room for some experimentation for end users.
Any deviations from the tonearm in it's current iteration will not negate the performance of the kits spoken for up until now. I will post this same message (or at least a link to this post) in the Vendors Bizarre thread.

A couple of questions, though:
- Should I provide a counter-weight scheme or do you think most folks would want to do something for themselves?
- An arm rest?
- The male bearing, upright, and mount?
- Right now I am using black tubing. Some have the Easton decal on them. Should this be sanded off?
- And any potential exits for the tonearm wire? Some say on the top side of the arm tube, some say the bottom side? I want to standardize as much of this as possible
- Cartridge tags?
- Tonearm wire?
- RCA plugs or jacks (single run to phono preamps if RCA plugs)?

I have brass enough to make a counter-weight myself
- An arm rest?
Hmmm, no big issue for me...
- The male bearing, upright, and mount?
I intend to make a mount that I can use on the DIY Schröder base I am working on. Bearing: Yes!

I said on the top in an earlier post, whatever you wish to standarize is good enough for me
- Cartridge tags?
No need, I make my own wires.
- Tonearm wire?
Se above...
- RCA plugs or jacks (single run to phono preamps if RCA plugs)?
I have my own system...

I second trondkj answers. I think if you keep it basic and let everyone work out the rest, it is in the spirit of diy. As for myself I really just need help with the bearing and would trust you more, since you have experience with the design and I would like the completed arm and hedshell. I'll drop by the new vendor's post.
