Hi Rodd,

Its difficult for me to judge this because i listen to them every day - so its like if you see your childs growing. There is no difference between today and yesterday - but on an one year old photgraph you realice how much happened inbetween.

What is absolutely clear: these speakers must be the mothers of dynamic.

ok, i don´t know enough about crossover design. What i did last month i fiddeling with the crossover, change parts, descide sound is wonderfull now, and find out next day ist worse than before.

At the moment the crossover looks like this, i don´t know if this is a sensible design, it grew by trial and error, not by calculation.

I never had the opportunity to test them. They are, like the TAD, not really cheap. I had a very long time evaluating the drivers i will use and some hundreds of emails with very experienced DIYers who gave me information. I was told the TAD is the best solution , second best would be altec.

Because my financial ressources are very limited (i´m on this project for more than one year now...) I can´t afford to buy all interesting speakers and test them - but you know:
Kent English at Pass Labs has a job description that includes acquisition of interesting drivers (He finds them,I sign the checks).
(Nelson Pass)
from:
http://www.passdiy.com/pdf/j-low.pdf

ask him!

Timo Christ uses Beyma 1" drivers.

Now the 828 - horns have a real flare made from wood, i made hundreds or thousands of measurements, swaped parts in the crossover for uncountable times.... The horns look like this
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

now. The crossover at the moment is simple second order low pass 2,7mH / 22uF for the TL1601A and for the TD2001 first order high pass with 15uF and padded down 10dB.

There is no damping material inside the box.

This was measured 85cm in front of the speaker, 8cm below axis of the TD2001. The room is very small, about 3,5m * 3,5m

Hi guys- I do not know much about horns.... How is distortion compared to high end direct radiation drivers? I looked at the specs for a celestion driver, and its distortion seemed to be crazy high    . How is it in something like the TAD 4003 or TAD 2002? (and what is the difference between the two anyway?) Thanks!

These questions are bit too general too answer in this thread.

You need to read for answers: Why Horns?
