Hello infinia!

It has been a long time indeed!

The bass has really improved, I am very satisfied. And the paper-y quality has also gone. So it has been a worthwhile exercise.

I urge everyone using the bog standard madisound crossover to ditch the bloody thing and go for a 2nd order one at 2kHz.

The tweeter is close to the floor because that is the original madisound design. Admittedly I did not change the driver configuration, you are right, the drivers are the wrong way round with the current floor-standing setup.

However the speakers are not designed to be floor-standing. I will eventually buy stands or integrate them with TV furniture - i.e. will be more elevated.

All in all I am very happy with the way they sound now - I can see (or hear) them serving me for years to come. For the value of the drivers it's an excellent sounding pair. They are very happy with jazz music and vocals and the bass on house/rock music is definitely more than satisfactory. No sub woofer needed (at least to me).

The modifications from the original design are:
1) Replace the original series 1st order 4khz xo with a 2nd order crossover at 2khz and 4db BSC
2) Replace the crazy square port with a flared round port 3 inch dia x 110mm depth located at the back and 3 inches off the bottom.
3) Extensive chamfering of all visible edges with 10x10 mm chamfer or radius ( I just think the chamfer looks nicer)
4) Replace middle bracing with simple wooden round rod from side panel to side panel (just as effective and if your treat it with wood hardener it's super strong)
