Well said, RDF. Sorry again for the former misunderstanding.
Might be, but how can that be the moderators problem
Anyway, I have just seen a research on ants, and why theres never any stopping in their flow when moving items and food
No matter how the scientist tried to disturb the "flow", the same amount of ants always passed through
Conclusion
They dont need chiefs, and they have none
Because they all have the same goal
They work together in complete unity
They are controlled by having the same goal
Whats that gonna have to do with anything
Very simple
If we all wanted the best to happen here, we would all have the same goal
And we would all do whats needed to keep the forum and our members in good shape
Problem may be to agree on "best"

Agreed. A reactionary clique has appeared that believes topics should be restricted only to subjects approved by Doug Self, the Audio Critic or indexed in Horowitz and Hill. Even the most capable and expert audio professionals with decades of accolades and awards are deemed unworthy. In their eyes this forum is in danger of collapsing into fun, and that can lead to dancing.
Agree totally, ultimately this is still a hobby isn't it? 😛 Love that last line! 😀
I've been active on this forum for over 5yrs and have not found a more congenial place to discuss my passion for audio and to share my experience and knowledge, and likewise benefit from the experience and knowledge of others. Much more often than not I think the mods get it right, and I really appreciate the evenhanded and relatively hands off approach taken here.
Rules are nice, but the people who need them most are least likely to follow them, the rest of us may need an occasional admonition, but should have some sense of what is acceptable online behavior. Just try to remember anything you write can come back to haunt you, and further if you would not say it in person you probably should not post it here either.. 🙂 You have no idea who might see and read your posts down the road, I still find stuff I wrote nearly 20yrs ago on obscure parts of the web, and am glad not to have frequently embarrassed myself or others.

The things I say in person would get me banned here.
🙂

I figure if you find yourself dancing, you have done a REALLY good job of your hifi.

Hi Tinitus,
I don't wont to be a worker ant. They do what their told by the queen and are mindless. 🙂

Once again I agree with RDF, since when did diyAudio cease to be a forum for hobbyists who want to experiment, advance their knowledge, share ideas (no matter how off beat they may be) and generally have a good time? Instead becoming a place where nothing but the most rigorous scientific proof is required before anything can be discussed at all?
IMO The direction certain people think is the "correct" direction for this forum to take will do nothing but stifle creativity and result in a boring place where nothing but the same old proven things get discussed ad infinitum.
I think that probably almost all major breakthroughs in technology or knowledge have come about because of people who refused to be conformists to what was "known" to be correct. Yes there will occasionally be some loopy stuff that even the most open minded of souls will have trouble not laughing at, but for those situations one can choose to have a laugh about it, or simply ignore it. It would seem one of the biggest problems is the lack of self control, and the pigheadedness exhibited by some people.
Provided people are not posting stuff that is dangerous, or likely to cause people grief (due to it being blatantly incorrect possibly resulting in circuit failures or such), then I see no reason why it is necessary to harass people simply because YOU don't believe what they have to say has credibility. If they aren't hurting anyone leave them alone and the problem goes away. There is such a thing as ignoring, I think some members need to learn how to do it 😉
Also for those complaining about certain mods by reference rather than by name, just come out and say their names! By not doing so you are basically hiding behind the ability to say no that wasn't who I was referring to. If you are going to question someone's integrity have the decency to do it face to face!
I know that this post was probably a waste of energy (and I should probably take a leaf out of my own book and ignore this thread), but sometimes I just need to get it out of my system
...

Tony.
Hi Tony, this thread is important. Moderation is critical to the survival of this forum and the mods do a tremendous job. The forum is open to new ideas and even threads on the merits of speaker cables is kept in order.
We the members need to have a basic idea of the moderators point of view so we stay within exceptable boundaries. This dialog helps us to acheive this.

I created this forum so that people could have more fun, and make it easier to find. Anything that goes against that goes against the whole reason diyAudio exists.
Just to clarify I wasn't implying that diyaudio had become that, just that it seems to be what some people think it should be!!! 🙂 It was a somewhat satirical rhetorical question (if there is such a thing).

I was speaking of another forum, best not to poke sticks in wasps nests..
Okay, but that forum (if I'm guessing the right one) has a kind of "subject to approval" system. I'm looking at something more strict, along the lines of "don't call us, we'll call you". There would be a requirement that no poster have any commercial affiliation. Recent posts in this thread point to a deteriorating situation, and I'd be more than happy to provide a place where engineers can talk real design devoid of numerology, spirits, Jack Bybee's Bentley and such.

Jasons last post really deserved to stay in lightening neon, but whatever
Its beyond doubt that we depend on the egocentric thinkers
They are often the great minds of creaters of the stuff we all dream about
But to "dominate" the forum I prefer the "mindless" ants, your words, not mine
I would prefer to say the less skilled
They may hopefully realise that they(we) depend on each other
Im aware that I may be very naive
The study of ants can be used in traffic studies and our behaviour
And they conclude that many of us turns into huge mindless egos in a car
If we moved in the traffic with greater attention and care about each other the traffic flow would be much better, and result in much less accidents
To me the forum is no different

AndyC, for a guy who sat next to me having a beer, just 2 months ago, you sure are hard to figure out.

And how would that help this forum 😕
Anyway, it should be quite easy to make a special forum inside this with a place fore pro constructors/designers
Ofcourse you cannot control who
Are you really sure you want to be anywhere else
It could get quite lonely very fast, and boring with little input
Going round in circles
At least the ones I have seen doing such

It's not the language, it's the intent. Call me a fuddy-duddy but I believe we should be able to discuss audio without persecution.
Everyone has their own definition of fun, and diyAudio should be a place where it can happen in a positive, nurturing and educational way. Sharing knowledge, meeting others who share the same passion, educating themselves and educating the community. I can't wait to have more educational articles and features in diyAudio. Education is fun. When it's done with vitriol the fun vanishes.
I like to think diyAudio is for the most part a reasonably middle path crowd where everything is open to discussion and debate and there are no sacred cows. Is that not the case? For the record, I do think it's a problem when some feel the need to put their point of view across ad nauseum, diluting the signal to noise ratio. Make your point, clarify if needed, and be done with it. But that's just my personal take. I don't set the tone here, it's really up to you guys to teach by example.

It wouldn't be the first splinter group from here, though it's a matter of much interest how you would differentiate, for example, Scott's work with Analog Devices from John's with Parasound. You have to admit an audio technical forum that bans those in the industry sounds a bit strange.
