Mini speaker - Japanese 100 Yen shop "Daiso" - 300 Yen speaker's modified model

Why working with small fullranges?

There are enough situations like living in a flat unwilling to disturb neighbours where low listening levels allow the use of them with acceptable results.

Maybe the only danger is if the sound is soo good (small fullranges measure quite well) to put loudness up what cannot lead to any satisfying result.

listening at low volumes protects your hearing; if you love music, you don't want to lose that, or suffer tinnitus.

For the last 20 years, I've been trying to make a hifi that sounds good at low volume, partly because I don't want to annoy other people, but also because I care a lot about my hearing. I wear ear defenders a lot whilst I'm at work.

Hi Freedom666.

I think it is a dream to achieve a better sound at a smaller size & lower price.

My goal is to exceed a high-end system like B with a very inexpensive system like A.

System A

System B

Hi Patrick.

This is a summary of your introductory video.

[DAISO 300-yen (2.2 USD) speaker]

"Quite narrow bandwidth as expected.
Distortion is also high for music appreciation.
Sound pressure was also insufficient.
The sound quality in the mid-range is unexpectedly good for video viewing and videoconferencing.
Perfect performance for 300 yen."

By the way, I do not agree with the above summary.
There is enough bandwidth for listening to music, and I don't feel any distortion.
The sound pressure is also sufficient for my needs.

These are small speakers that I made ages ago utilising the drivers from a portable speaker that are much the same as that used in the DIASO speakers. The are inspired by the BBC LS35a, in that the front and backs are mechanically damed from the main enclosure, the front is held on by tension springs, the back is screwed on, both have foam gaskets. The drivers are wired in series, with a 1.5 if cap across the bottom one.

It depends on the sound level of course.
And he is probably using the original amplifier.
The drivers are good enough for full range at near field, for me.
Just need bass boost.

Hi Patrick.

Yes, the bass is weak.
If it could go up to around 100 Hz, I would have no complaints.

I couldn't remember what they sounded like so I've wired them up and giving them a listen. I had Nirvana (live in New York), very crisp sounding. They have a bit of sibilance, so I used a graphic equalizer to dip around 6,000 Hz and they're very neutral now. The bass limes were quite well revealed dispite the obvious lack of low end - obvious from the tiny size, not the sound.

Hi cracked case.

Thanks for the feedback.
It's nice to be able to enjoy music even with speakers that don't have sufficient specs.
