Mini Karlsonator (0.53X) with Dual TC9FDs

Hi X - what width and depth is the 24" tall variant? what would it do with Beta8cx?

with Beta 8 , an internal tube and small driver might fit - a tube on top would be easy - can point up or down -a K-tube could probably be shortened to 3" in length to work with Beta8

not bad at all for a teensy speaker😀 - an enterprising builder could make a K'nator PA130 boombox - perhaps have the speakers so they could detach from the carrying handle/battery holder section so it could serve as a boombox and regular stereo system.
<3 I love these bad boys! - @freddi - im on it! i just have shared feelings about the detaching part, i thought about may different options, locks, magnets, butterfly screws etc, i am afraid it creates too much extra vibrations reducing the overall sound quality - i already did some draft design of it and another alternative without detaching but then the K built wont do at all as it would be one giant cube - any ideas where i could find info?

woot, thank you so much for that, X.

It's impressive how much bass the cabinet is able to squeeze out with that volume. I'll have to go with a different tweeter should i choose to cope with the lowered sensitivity but 28hz? my my....

Yes 28Hz comes at a price of it not being balanced so you will need to drop your mids and treble by almost 8dB with a big shelf filter or EQ. A more balanced design is maybe 45Hz but much smaller box.

I think it could be useful to tune GregB's Karlsonator 12 a bit higher - as built to plan its tuned to around 38Hz which is its LF corner when loaded with Eminence's Beta10cx - it handles power just fine but I think its a bit "soft" in the "hit" department.

an 0.8 scale K15 sim seems competitive when using speakers like Kappa12

a K-tube is one way to go when one has to do 2-way and doesn't have a suitable coaxial. Beta12LTA can be augmented with a 1005 type piezo to give pretty good sound.

it might be good to have a somewhat smaller Karlsonator than the 12 for Beta10cx.

Beta10cx subjectively doesn't have the midrange brightness nor sensitivity of some fullrange. But it is good for bass power so tradeoffs - YMMV

besides a "Karlsonator10", I wonder how a dual 10 XKi or K-nator would do for fidelity and punch? - something like a Delta10a or better. The proposed dual pym1298/Kappa12a XKi puts chamber volumes up around 100l rear/25l front with good LF extension. Can it be sometimes better to trade a bit of low end for somewhat smaller rear chamber and possibly better cone control? I'd like 120dB plus peaks without terrible compression. Don't know if two 10" with typical 2.5" diameter voice coils in parallel can do that or not (?) - also, the matter of K-tube and compression drivers - would it take two K-tubes/drivers splayed ~30 degrees apart to handle short high spl peaks?

Karlsonator for CSS FR125SR

I received a request asking if the CSS FR125SR driver would work and what size box is optimal.

http://diyaudioprojects.com/Drivers/CSS-FR125SR/CSS-FR125SR-Speaker-Datasheet.pdf

According to my simulations, a 0.53x scale in height and depth and 0.46x in width makes a nice box that has an F3 of about 59Hz but with superb bass amplitude of 88.7dB after baffle step losses - so no BSC circuit is needed. It should sound really nice - full rich bass.

that's really impressive for a little driver. With regards to higher spl 2-way K's it might be good to use a double K-tube arrangement as practiced some years ago (sorry for the crude sketch - lol) - this should help on thermal compression

tubes are vertically stacked one above the other, bottom tube tipped 30 degrees up, top tube tipped 30 degrees down, tips of tubes just touching one-another.
