discrete

Hi Guys,
I just finished made a part of discrete output stage, transistor version with mix of resistor (holco h2/h4,alan bradley, vishay dale and cheap 1% metal resistor) by point to point wiring system.

The problem is:
1. Inductor for pasif filter is 8.2 mH, not 10 mH
2. Caps for pasif filter use 680pF paper caps, not silver mica or others.
3. Axial inductor for input voltage is 220 uH with resistant 12R !!

Advise please ?

Good work!

1. Tried in my simulation of the circuit 8.2mH instead of 10mH - difference is tiny, don't worry about it.
2. Don't know!
3. Not a problem IMO.

Looks really cool! Your caps look like polyester and polystyrene to me. Does it really matter though as long as they're not ceramics??

Have you listenend to it yet?

Oh and congratulations Grahame on a job well done.
It's a little daunting first time for sure.

Keep the old one for spares. The spin motor is the same as the drawer motor... and you never know when you might need one of those.
HI GLENN2! i was just curious, when installing the VAM1202s are there any kind of alighnment, adj. etc. that have to be made afterwords? also, requiring special equipment? just for future reference. Thanks!

They should all be factory adjusted for a standard output level and I've never heard of anybody finding it necessary.

If you wanted to be ultra-cautious you could adjust the trimmer on the underside so that the HF eye-pattern signal at the decoder is the amplitude given in the service manual. That would require an oscilloscope. Maybe worth doing if you have one but I certainly wouldn't worry otherwise.

Hi Simon,hi Glenn

Very well thanks for your advise.
Yes, I think this caps is polystyrene.

I don't yet listen this filter and don't be patient but......Now I have 12V sulzer's reg and curious with the result in op amp supply (replace 12V raygulator), also curious with independent PSU for op amp supply (I want to know effect of snubber ,bypass cap etc ), so I hope as soon as to get it and fit this filter soon.

Hi guys, a question from newbie- any damage if the voltage regulator is installed the wrong way around? I am having a go at buiding Raygulator. Thanks Quan.

Hi,

I put a -12v reg. the wrong way round once. Blew a fuse but no lasting ill effects. I may just have been lucky though.

Best not to do it !

Slightly off topic, but was browsing ebay for a roksan integrated amp and found a very interesting auction for a slighty modified one that looked like it was written in a style i was familiar with.

Low and behold when i scrolled back up kingsimonty was the user name 😀 😀 😀

Only 99.3% positive, i reckon he is a nigerian scammer......

DON'T pay him with western union 😉

LMAO! Cheeky s0d 😉

Only one negative and that was retaliation from an idiot that sent me fake goods for whom I left negative feedback.

Yes everyone, buy my amp. Forget DIY, commercial is nearly as good at 5x the price.

As for Nigerians and Western Union... that's fine. As long as they pay by 'Union or bank transfer. That way there'll be no refunds. They usually prefer to buy one of our courses with credit card though.... 🙄

lol, very good!

Well the amp is nice. It's well made and solid and looks lovely. The sound is a touch soft and I found it almost pedestrian at times. But you're used to an Arcam so it's probably positively full of beans by comparison! Enough detail, control and all the rest of it. It's smooth and plays any kind of music well. It does what an amp needs to do. I'm only going DIY so I can go active and mess with DIY amps. If I did keep it I'd be putting schottky diodes in the PSU and seeing if Mundorf M-lytics will fit in to replace the 6800uF BHC Aerovox main caps. I'd also fit super regs for the preamp (+ and - 20v), if those do power the preamp!
