An acapella boyz to men song is played now which has MANY MANY MANY voices layed on top of each other and it shows LOTS of potential. wonderfully clear and open, especially for a £5 driver.
Im listening many degrees off axis and it sounds much smoother like this but that aint a surprise. On axis they sound a bit edgy and harsh but they aint run in what so ever so that could be a culprit. However I rather think its the xover. Ive simply jsut removed the SS97 W15CY open panel and replaced it with the Audax morel varient, in fact its playing now and its impressing me more and more! The song progressed and many more vocals came in all beautifully separated.
Its gonna be a bit peaky in the xover region because the Excel doesnt extend as far as the audax. So the excel needs less dB/oc to get it too 4th order slopes so the xover wont get this with the auxax, ie there will be more sound thru xover causing it to peak. Either way sounds rather good. Im gonna leave em on for a bit to let em run in before I start boxes and measurement.
Im up for the DIY Audax England gathering depending on location and whats going on at uni, if im even at uni then. I know this is early days and no speakers are even built! But I can supply a 4 channel amp if we wanna biamp these things. The amp sounds really good, so we will be able to easily hear the differences between speakers. Eitherway lets see what happens.

If we are getting an aleph X together then im gonna make my XT18/ seas excel non ferro tweeter done so we can get some quality speakers on the end of it. Ive always wanted to see how they sound.
Sorry guys just to take this way way way off topic

Hi Diggy,
I wish it was!!! One day, when my other car projects done (old opel kadett with a lotus engine) and I have some spare cash 😀 Might do one with a rover v8 or something similarly light 🙂
Stonleigh's that car show isnt it? I never seem to get much free time/money so unfortunately not 🙁

Ok I've found some wooden biscuit boxes in Poundstretcher for £5 a piece. Internal volume 3.5 ~ 3.7 litres. Cheap and cheerful! I've cut in a 90mm hole for the driver and bingo. I've got to say they don't sound bad (esp for price!).
Now what's the easiest way of posting a quick piccie here?
cheers steve

deffo need a tweeter though
😉
Certainly do need a tweeter, and I happen to have a couple of vifa D20td-05 's. Went to maplins to get a few caps to play with and told they'd all have to be ordered😡 so no tweeter play just yet.
Cheers for the advice Steve, tried it and it no wanna play
It allows me to enter the location of the jpg but when I click preview I get no picture.

Umm it could be that it's too large (actual pixels, not just filesize). I normally resize stuff to 800x600 anyway just so it fits on screen better. it could also be the wrong file type, making sure it's a jpeg will help. or email it to me n ill post it up for you.

Loudspeaker workshop by adua is another freeware crossover simulator.
By the way mine are sounding better and better as they play on, the first 30 mins and they improved dramatically well to my ears they did. Very good little bargain pinkmouse got us here 😀

A meet up, social or competitive 😉 would be cool. August should be perfect, still nice and summery. It will take me that long to get round to it anyway, I've that much other stuff on as well.
There seems to be a southern bias to the location, I'm not fussed where really. Matttcattt, perhaps you would like to be my navigator and petrol money sharer? 😉 If it's easterly for you, of course.
Hopefully not letting the cat out of the bag, but I intend to go fully active, most likely using chip amps. Will probably be a ported box, but not definite. Somewhere between 2 and 4 AP100Z0s per side.

Right I've managed to find some caps and a lpad so installed the tweeter ~7kHz first order. I've allowed the audax to roll off naturally. Really are motoring along now, and look to be excellent bang per buck (££). All temporary fixed at the moment, but there seems to be a lot of promise with the current set up.
I'll have to give it a listen via the main set up tomorrow. Good luck all!
Cheers steve

hi everyone,
I would just like to toss in the fact that i am currently using the audax AP130ZO and Audax TM025F9 tweeter as multimedia speakers powered by a car audio head unit(running off my PC 12 volt power supply). I bought them cos they were on special and i got em for relatively cheap.
I would just like to say that i absolutely love these speakers! they are wonderfully transparent and faithfully reproduce everything with no audible peaks/dips. They are in an 11 litre ported enclosure(WinISD response below). I'm using a textbook 12db/oct crossover for the tweeter and the mid is playing full range. The speakers are bi-amped from the 4 output channels of the head unit. No attenuation is needed as the tweeter is 8 ohm and the mid is 6 ohm. The resultant response is perfectly balanced.
I must admit, for the price, i am well and truly impressed! Didnt expect to get so much from so little. Now all i need is an active 8" or 10" sub on the cheap(anyone can recommend one?)
I think the AP100ZO will be very impressive as well!
Cheers to all.
