low cost ADAU1452 China board...

I have read opinions on the sample rate of 192 kHz or 96 kHz. One opinion was that the sample rate of 192 kHz is too much for the DSP and it would be better to use 96 kHz. I use 192 kHz and can't see any negative effects. I also switched to 96 kHz in SigmaStudio and didn't notice any effects. Am I right?

adau1452 /CS42448 combo have difficulty with 192kHz bacause of the CS42448 card. It is configured as TDM slave. Must be same samplerate in and out of the codec. I think it is 192k DAC but ADC struggles with 192k.
Inside 1452 the prosessing can of course be 192k with upsampling/downsampling

I use the combination Adau1452 with Codec1938. The EVAL-ADAU1452MINIZ board from Analog Devices requires a power supply unit with at least 1.5 amps. UserGuide Page 14. Nvarcher (aliExpress) told me 500 mA on request. This also corresponds approximately to my measurement. Subjectively, I have the impression that the use of 96kHz sample rate results in a somewhat livelier sound. More "punch" in the bass. But that may be a subjective impression. I'll keep researching. It is clear that S/PDIF can be controlled with a maximum of 96 kHz.

Very strange, looks like the CS42448 and 1452 won't communicate if selfbooting with DAC output caps removed from CS42448. If i unplug load and plug it in again it functions, OK now i know. Thougth it was the SPI eprom that was bricked at once.
Attach a REW measurement with and without output circuit components.
Optical SPDIF in from REW, So easy to see when the caps start to generate harmonics.

Attach also the Sigma Studio file.
I have to use seperate PCs for sigma and measuring or i get grounding problems.
Theese measurements are with seperate ipad power bric to the CS42448. Also powering the 1452 through CS42448 board

Hello, i would really appricate your help. I accidently connected +v5 and gnd from adau1452 wrong and after that no light only a small red light is blinking on D01. I cant programm it even more.

Details:
  • Adau1452 is from nvarcher.
  • Till today i programmed the adau with my cypress over i2c.
  • i connected my up2stream 5v and gnd in the wrong way to gnd and +5v from adau1452. The up2stream was connected to a psu. The adau1452 was not connected to any other power supply.
  • When i connected it before in the right way to the up2stream 5v and gnd, it worked without problems. The up2stream is still working good.

Would be really happy if there is a solution to this problem.

Best regards, Tomas

I've got ADAU1452+CS42448 Lusya board. Nothing but troubles. OUT3/L and OUT4/L don't work at all. Others - intermittently, randomly turning on and off. I asked the seller if he was willing to replace the defective board. Nope. He ignored the question and requested me to take a video of everything so his technicians could look at it. Eeh... take a video of the board not working? why video - not audio?

I have worked with DSP since 1994, on TI/ADI/Motorola, programmed on a dozen assembly languages, and done hundreds of projects, small and large. A GUI like SigmaStudio is supposed to make it easier - but in reality, it just eats your time with zero results. I'd rather write the code myself - if I did not have to learn the processor IO and undocumented board.

If I am frustrated - I can only imagine how badly non-DSP DIYers are frustrated.

I use the nvarcher combo. Have not had issues on my two combos regarding programming and getting the signal out.
But thay have skimped on components so it can not go full throttle. Also the caps distort on input and output stage of CS42448 board.
Had some issues with codec or 1452 turning off output when I removed output filter and load was connected. Maybe some internal DC protection or something?
But dont think sigmaDSP is the problem. The hardware is on the edge cost/quality wise. nvarcher call them educational boards, so I think that is admitting they are not supporting full spec of the ADAU or codec

Hi,

I've been working with ADAU1452 in some of my projects and also have the USB<->I2S interface project which could be also used directly with SigmaStudio.

So naturally I have everything to make a DIY-friendly module with USB<->I2S+I2C and ADAU1452 in one device. Literally just a bit of PCB work :)
I'm thinking of putting only S/PDIF RX/TX modules on the board itself, no ADC/DACs. And route all I2S in/outs to one big header.

Are there any other requirements I need to consider for such module?

I fully agree - but I can not understand why they would not simply implement reference designs and get it all working well as it should. I can not comprehend what kind of education people would get from being tortured with such "educational boards". That's not what normal DSP was, is, or should be.

It seems that miniDSP is the way to go, and it seems that I am not the only one who thinks so because it's back-ordered / out of stock everywhere. :)
