good amp is good

there are so many different sounding tube amps, same as so many different sounding sand amps ..... so - if and when you find one adequate to your needs and taste, ignore of what is it made ..... sand or tubes - will not tell how it is going to sing

"between SS and tubes" - part of sentence.... in fact entire dichotomy born in damn audiophool circles, where no one is able to differentiate hot and cold end of soldering iron

edit: rant not against you, using that expression ...... more general rant about fast-food-fast-everything "culture"

Big Macs have their rightful place in the world. 😉

But yeah, it was a loaded question. I've heard tubes that sounded "dry," and sand which was more "sweet."

I think I was trying to get at the harmonic distortion profile -- not having as much as many SETs, but still more than most SS.

Of course, I've never had much luck in predicting how something sounded to my ears based on plots and specs alone, so I guess the real solution would be: less talking and more building. 🙂

Just pulled the trigger on the new Modushop 4U 400 monoblock. 👌

int code sshot.png ZML-Remote.jpg

Basically - same as Iron Pumpkin Logic Module - 3.5'' TFT, Encoder, fancy Aluminum billet Remote
Arrangement - controlling 4 inputs, 64 step attenuator (2^6 matrix, resistors switched with relays), Stand-by (thus both Power On and Power Off), Mute and both separate and automatic un-Mute
Power On sequence:
-powering main PSU, screen backllight, Greetings
-main screen, enabling both inputs and attenuator relays
-un-muting

Necessary change to TFT module - rerouting backlight LED neg to low-side switch controlled with code ( no such function in TFT module, as made)

Remote having all mentioned commands (input change incremental with center key)
Encoder controlling volume, short click incremental change of inputs, long press Power function

Easy peasy, few nights needed for, basically, supplementing Iron Pumpkin Code, but changes are substantial
As always 95% of work made by Mighty ZM, while crucial 5% is tnx to my Buddy Denis Balog (Vinko @ Baby DiyA)

I'm too old for this programming Drek, however it is simple, I'm simply not native in it

I'm definitely no Wayne in slightest, he's doing it for years, whatever needed to ensure Mithrandir having all the fun

(I just enjoy finding any reason to post this picture, again and again)
