Back in Nelson's A40 article he mentions how bias can alter the damping factor. His little graph says it a lot better than I would be able to summarize it.
I have listened to class a, ab and d and can't tell the difference.
which doesn't mean there aren't 😀
.
There is never a need for 1.8A bias current for 50W average power into 8 ohms (that's average NOT "rms") for an audiophile amp.
There is always a place for "correctly" biased amp in an audiophile setup , no matter how much bias is needed 😉
maybe its time for you to get into the serious audio world , and build/buy an class A amp 🙄
.
For me it probably just means the difference is too small to hear.which doesn't mean there aren't 😀
.
Is it worth destroying the planet with massive bias currents for 0.001% ?

I find as little as 10mA gets rid of crossover distortion.
Why waste power as heat with little or no benefit.
Wouldn't touch class A with a barge pole.

i build the PAPA 2SK77B amplifier with 2.8A Bias for 30W and it has two mission
1 warming the planet
2 kills every other amp i have .
mission accomplished 😀
Nigel , I am very sorry for you that you havent been told , but nobody will destroy the planet with his bias setting , really it's not gonna happens 😎
planet will last much much longer after human end , even having over bias our amps like dumb 🙄
here we are talking about how to set this marvelous bias ,that we all ( almost ) like for our lovely class A amp , and fact is that Nelson Pass knows it very well , and we all ( almost ) like his articles , it's always a pleasure to read them 😉

I find that driving to the post office one time less per month covers the balance,
and I have the good fortune to live in a climate where the additional warmth
is welcome.
Nigel, what are you doing fooling around with AB when you could be running D?

During the coming years more and more electricity will be "green".....windmills, waterpower etc.....in the moment US may be a little behind 🙂 ….seems to like coal more than mills 🙂
...Why waste power as heat with little or no benefit...
England is cold 8 months of the year, switching on my class A amps isn't a waste of energy, the heat subsidies my central heating.
Edit. Does that make it 100% efficiant?
...Wouldn't touch class A with a barge pole.
That's a shame, your loss.

I'm waiting for my very own Mr. Fusion home reactor. 😉During the coming years more and more electricity will be "green".....windmills, waterpower etc.....in the moment US may be a little behind 🙂 ….seems to like coal more than mills 🙂
Not enough photons up here in the PNW for solar panels to be very effective. Still need about 20 years for a decent solar system to pay for itself.
Without class A it is difficult to explore single ended configurations…...I still like my SE 300B amp very much…..and MoFo…...how could I live without MoFo?
In Norway most energy is from waterfalls…...and this is one reason you see many Tesla's…..it is free to charge them "in the field" (as far as I know).I'm waiting for my very own Mr. Fusion home reactor. 😉

A lot of water energy in Sweden also……..Denmark gets some of it....depending on how wind blows as we have many windmills…...

In the UK they have put a limit on Hoover (vacuum cleaner) powers to stop wasting power. They are banning incandescent lamps.
I don't think normal incandescent light bulbs are produced anymore……..and most people here has changed to LED bulbs.
I can see some people here still use old light bulbs as current limiter when powering up an amp for the first time...….better get a vario-transformer instead!

If your planning on building one of my older Zen Lite with the 300 watt bulbs,
you probably want to buy some soon....
Fortunately they are run at low wattage, so they last a long time.
